Its a steel!
I purchased this knife about 16 months ago. I spent $27 including shipping and it may be the best fixed blade knife I have ever bought. The handle is perfect for me, it just melts in my hand, no slipping, twisting etc. The blade design is excellent for cutting chores I do around the ranch. The 440 steel is 1/4 thick and tapers down to a strong tip. It is a heavy knife, 8.8oz but that helps me when I hack through branches. I am not sure if the steel is 440 a, b or c, but it is very tough, holds a respectable edge and is easy to sharpen in the field. All my other knives are premium ss, ie cpm154, cpm s90v, and s35v. They hold a great edge BUT are a bitch to sharpen. I no longer have the patience to spend hours on sharpening stones. This knife is with me daily but because of its weight I also carry a Spyderco Dragonfly. This Bush guide skinner does all the heavy work. Great knife, really good price and as usual terrific service from Knifecenter.

Great bargain
I really like the heft of the knife, although blades of 1/4" thickness do not cut with the deftness of a 1/8" blade. The handle is great as it doesn't turn in your hand in poor conditions. I'm considering the axe partner but the two together are over 2 lbs to carry. Only negative is the sheath but so far it has held up.The price point, the build quality and the design make this unbeatable in my opinion. Great service also from Knife Center!!!

A beast of a knife
8 inches of 1/4 inch 440 steel, with a handle that doesn't slip in blood, water, snow etc for just $27 is almost criminal, I look around to see if the police are closing in on me for practically stealing this knife. I have handmade custom knives but am afraid to use them, they are like works of art. This knife is perfect!!! Great heft, cuts beautiful, feels good in the hand and a few strokes on the stone and it is scapel sharp. Sheath is not up to the level of the knife but at this price point can't complain. Great knife, great price, great service from Knife Center..nuf said!!
