SGG2101KGR: GranDaddy G2 Machete, OD Green
Southern Grind Knives
The GranDaddy G2 is part monster fixed blade and part maneuverable machete in a very lightweight package. Its size of course puts it into the clearing brush category and the thin, approximately 0.10" blade slices through thin twigs and branches with ease. The blade steel and grind are what make using it as a survival type knife possible. Near the base of the blade is hardened above 60 Rockwell so it will hold and edge there for splitting, slicing, chopping, etc. Toward the tip, the steel is hardened less so it's not brittle during batoning and can be sharpened more easily. The grooved G10 handle fills the hand well, provides plenty of traction, and is ideal for use with gloves. The sheath is what sets this knife apart from all the rest. It's not a typical drop in sheath, it's more of a sideways click in design, making secure carry without a retention strap possible without affecting deployment speed. It's made from durable Kydex with a belt clip and leg retention strap. Try a GranDaddy out for yourself and you will go out of your way to find things to chop.

Worth it
After going back and forth for a while I decided to give this a try even though the price is high. I do not regret the decision. The blade is razor sharp, strong, and it's amazing steel. The overall size of the knife is good too. It is good for jungle trekking without having to go too big and blends well without drawing too much attention. I think my favorite feature thus far is the kydex sheath. I went with the OD green which blends in beautiful and if it gets wet no big deal. The way the knife clicks into place is addictive. It is a light and secure carry system that is not bulky. The leg strap is a plus also. I am looking forward to having it with me for years to come. I am glad I found out about Southern Grind because of Knifecenter.

Fantastic !
Purchased as a "security blanket" to take along on a ten day hike in the Andes of Equador. Used it almost every day - cutting wood for fires, clearing trails and campsites, butchering a lamb, cutting up vegetables that I can not name but where some of the best I've ever eaten, making a fishing pole --- something new almost everyday. Sad thing, is that I left it there with my new best friends!
