SP41CF40TH: C41CF40TH Native 5 40th Anniversary
To commemorate Spyderco's 40th anniversary, they decided to make a knife that is truly extraordinary, yet quintessentially Spyderco. Spyderco began with the Native 5--a highly evolved fifth generation version of the tried-and-true Native model. They then pushed the envelope of materials and craftsmanship with a blade made of DS93X Thor pattern martensitic Damascus steel from the Swedish firm Damasteel. This extraordinary material is produced by Damasteel's proprietary powder metallurgy process, which forge welds layers of RWL34 and PMC27 steels into a state-of-the- art stainless Damascus steel with a intricate pattern. The blade is laser engraved with the 40th anniversary logo and paired with a stunning handle featuring CNC-machined, fluted carbon fiber scales. The Native 5's signature four-position pocket clip provides convenient, versatile carry and pays homage to Spyderco's pioneering role in creating the modern clip-carried folding knife. An extraordinary piece of Spyderco history, this remarkable knife will be produced as a Sprint Run in very limited quantities and is packaged in a padded zipper pouch. Limited run of 1,200 pieces.

Cons: Pocket Clip, Lock Ease of Use
Almost perfect
I don't give it a 5 for three reasons: - Not numbered (why is that, it's a limited run and collector item, at a premium price, then why no numbering?). - Fluting almost invisible. Way back I was attracted by the gorgeous fluting of the titanium handle version (did not buy, too expensive at the time). I was kind of hoping the same effect on this one - no such luck, you have to carefully play with the light to get a hint of the fluting. Is that because of the nature of the carbon fiber, or was the machining too light? I don't know but it's disappointing. - Pocket clip: the way it is arranged the knife is riding rather high on your pocket, which is not what I prefer and not the best solution. Otherwise excellent quality, blade perfectly centered unlike what I read in another review, very rigid liner-less handle (only the carbon fiber plates make the handle), all in a light package. Steel of course gorgeous, no blade play (could rotate a tiny bit more easily but this is easy to fix, or will fix itself over time if you use the knife). Adjustments all perfect, in short the 6-month wait was almost justified (almost: such long delays should not exist Mr. Spyderco - and my C101CFPE2 Manix 2 Composite Satin Blade, Peel-Ply Carbon Fiber Handles will be worse, going strong toward 7 months since the order). Oh, and very quick international shipping by the Knife Center, thank you.

Cons: None
It's stunning
Art can be sharp. This is truly a must have knife for any fan of Spyderco. Upon getting mine I seriously couldn't believe the quality of it. It comes in a nice padded pouch with a small and humble fold out that tells the history of Spyderco and this knife. The blade itself is straight up drop dead gorgeous... No video or photo can do it justice because when you physically start moving the knife around, the way the Thor pattern shimmers in light is just so awesome. The handle is very impressive, again I haven't seen a photo do it justice. Pocket clip is a mirror shine, the lock back is sturdy as ever and the weight is extremely minimal. The only complaint people seem to have is the giant "40" and the dates on it... But if that's throwing you off you're missing the point. Sure the knife can be used (it came deadly sharp) but it's really a collectors item, people don't plan to spend this much to go and gunk it up with box residue or blood from an animal. The only negative thing I can say about this is more of a "joke's on me" thing... I had been tracking this knife for months and when they were finally released Knife Center claimed they were discontinued. Panicked, I looked all over and eventually purchased one from another website, so I missed out on my Knife Rewards points.... Aw well, it's here now and if you're on the fence about it, fall on the purchasing side. It's a once in forty year chance.

Knife Center, Great Service Getting This Knife For Me.
Very well done Damasteel blade & Fluted Carbon Fiber Scales, excellent quality & execution. QC lacking, blade off center, STIFF/100X back lock & action. I was hoping a $400 knife would equal a nicely centered blade, a back lock you could easily open with your thumb & an blade that was easy to open & close; no such luck. A great collectors knife, but not a great knife. If you want a great knife buy a Sage 5.
