CS14AKVG: 14AKVG AK-47 Field Knife
Cold Steel
The AK-47 series folding knives by Cold Steel have set the standard for hard use tactical folders. A firm favorite with military personnel and special units, these rugged, dependable folding knives have seen use all over the world and in several conflict zones, and have been in our line up in various iterations for almost a decade.

When Cold Steel decided to explore designs for a multi-purpose fixed blade field knife that would be suitable for military use, they kept coming back to the AK-47.

The AK-47 Field Knife is enormously sturdy and amazingly effective. With robust solid steel construction, full width tang and American G10 scales - it is function personified!

Expertly crafted from CPM-3V high carbon super-steel, the AK-47 Field Knife is then D.L.C (Diamond Like Coated) from the tip of its beefy saber ground clip point blade to its oversized striking pommel; ensuring an unbelievably strong, razor sharp blade with a hard wearing virtually scratch resistant surface.

Supplied with the highly versatile military standard Secure-Ex sheath, the AK-47 Field Knife is ready to take on any challenge!

Pros: Blade Sharpness, Blade Material, None
Cons: Handle Material, Weight
Handle design doesn't transition over to fixed blade.
I couldn't get used to the handle design on this knife so i ended up trading a friend for a DPx Gear MilSpec 6 he owned and i couldn't be happier. The DPx Gear feels better in hand, has better balance, and a vastly superior fit/finish and attention to detail. If all i was doing was slicing paper or chopping a rope, the Ak-47 handle didn't bother me much, but once i took and carved a walking stick i noticed that the downward angle dug into my palm and become irritating and uncomfortable, but YMMV.This handle design works out for the AK folder but it does not transition over well to the fixed blade in my opinion. It's as if CS expected gloves be worn while using the AK-47 because there's sharp angles all over the places.

How do people get so hyped about this?
I had a chance to use one of these for a weekend outdoors, and found that it can do pretty much what I needed and expected to do. It's a little heavy to be an excellent survival knife, unless you are surviving at a stationary campsite--I think CS's fixation with being macho got away from them here. The steel performs well, but even after a lot of chopping and slicing, I wasn't blown away by the 3V. It did a fine job, like a lot of higher end steels. For normal sized hands, this next point may be moot, but I found the downward curve to be somewhat uncomfortable and frustrating when trying to apply full downward pressure.
