SP195GPOR: C195GPOR Brad Southard Positron
Designed by custom knifemaker Brad Southard, the Spyderco Positron takes all the best features of a full-service flipper folder and distills them into a compact, pocket-friendly format optimized for everyday carry. A faithful expression of Southard's "Ion" folder, this KnifeCenter Exclusive Positron features a full-flat-ground satin plain edge blade crafted from premium CPM-S35VN particle-metallurgy stainless steel. Integral to the edge side of the blade, its minimalist flipper tab provides swift, reliable one-handed opening with the stroke of an index finger. In the open position, the flipper also serves as an extremely effective hand guard and a perfect complement to the handle's ergonomic lines.

The handle's twin scales are crafted from polished orange G10 that is precisely machined, radiused, and polished to create an amazingly comfortable grip. They also house the nested, skeletonized stainless steel liners that are the heart of the knife's sturdy liner lock mechanism. To ensure an ultra-smooth opening action, the Positron's blade and handle are joined by special ball bearing washers that greatly reduce friction and ensure a long service life. A reversible deep-pocket wire clip offers either left or right-side tip-up carry and strikes an excellent balance between subtle discretion and immediate access.

Pros: None
Cons: Handle Feel, Lock Ease of Use, Overall Quality
Nice design - Poor construction
I love Spyderco , I own many of their knives however they dropped the ball on this one. I think this is a good design but would not function as advertised, the flipper would not flip, too tight, and it took quite an effort to release the liner lock, a new knife should function as advertised. I also question the smooth G10, I love the grip and feel of regular G10 but when you smooth it out you loose one of the properties that make G10 a great handle material. I received the usual courteous and prompt refund from KnifeCenter when I returned the knife.

Sprint = More Rare = Collectible = What?
My consistent EDC is the carbon fiber handled version of this knife and I love it. I pre-ordered it because I loved the original Spyderco Southard flipper, but I wanted something a little smaller and more civilized. The Positron is that and much more. It is one of the best knives I have owned in the past 60 years. So I bought this knife as a backup if needed, or a safe princess if not needed. It is virtually identical to the carbon version except the blade finish is "brushed" S35V instead of polished S30V and the handles are bright orange, something I might need in the woods, but very attractive in its own right. This is an excellent knife, just right for every day carry for almost anyone who needs a cutting tool, but NOT a prying tool, or a substitute screw driver, or a can opener. I don't know how tough the pivot is, and I'm not willing to find out. The blade came very sharp, and I expect it to stay sharp and be relatively easy to resharpen. The engineering of the flipper mechanism is much better than the original Southard flipper, probably the best flipper opening knife I have tried. On the carbon handle I found that I had to soften the tips where they rested in my palm as the points made hot spots. If I decide to carry this knife I will probably do the same, but the value would be diminished, so I'm leaving them sharp, too sharp I think, until I decide to make this knife my EDC. The overall quality is slightly less than I have come to expect from Spyderco, not enough that I would not use the knife, but I felt a slight disappointment when I first examined the knife.
