Description
CRK270GKP: Homefront Field Strip Folding Knife, Designed by Ken Onion
CRKT

It might look like your grandpa's classic WWI folder, but it's got an impressive secret. The Homefront flipper is the first in the CRKT fleet to feature the patent pending "Field Strip" technology. This in-field, no-tool take apart capability lets you purge your most reliable companion of a hard day's grime right where you are, without ever returning to your workbench.

The breakthrough "Field Strip" innovation comes from the shop of world-renowned knife craftsman Ken Onion and has been over ten years in the making. To disassemble the Homefront when the knife is in the closed position, push the front release lever away from the blade, then spin the turn release wheel on the rear of the handle away from the pivot shaft—once you feel the handle release, pull it up and away from the blade. Reassembly is as easy as reversing the procedure, allowing for practical, quick maintenance where you stand.

From his shop in Kaneohe, HI, Ken Onion designed the tactically inspired, everyday carry Homefront knife to stay true to its vintage roots. The bayonet lug-style flipper sets off the smooth open action of the 3.5" modified drop point blade, while tank jimping on the backstrap sits snugly against your palm.

It stands up to the looks of a WWI heirloom, and it sure as hell stands up to any job it encounters. The handles are made from 6061 aircraft-grade aluminum and house an impressively beefy AUS-8 stainless steel blade. Classic on the outside, impressively futuristic on the inside, the Home-front is about to change everything.

Pros: Blade Sharpness, Ease of Opening, Lock Ease of Use, Handle Material
Cons: Overall Quality, None
Great EDC
I've been using this as my main EDC for about a month now and have no complaints. I was initially drawn to it because I like Ken Onion's designs and obviously the new field strip feature. The field strip feature is such an innovative idea that I think will be revolutionary in the folding knife industry. If you've ever taken apart a knife that uses tiny torx screws and standoffs, then you know how time consuming it can be. I can disassemble and reassemble this knife in about 15 seconds. It's really a great knife, but to be nit picky the overall build quality is a little lacking. It is an import, but I believe it's slightly over priced.

CRKT Homefront
I love innovative knife technology. This knife is great. The first thing I did when the knife arrived - take it apart and put it back together / fun. The build is top quality and sturdy. The flipper is smooth and the liner lock is tight and secure. There was no blade play and I actually loosened the blade a touch with the included Torx wrench. This knife is larger than most other CRKT knives I have. It is more the size of my Benchmade Griptilian. I like the larger heft of this knife and the "throwback" styling is refreshing. Every time I look at I think CAPTIAN AMERICA. I am very happy with my purchase and KnifeCenter was fast and easy. FIVE STARS *****

Pros: Pocket Clip, Lock Ease of Use, Lock Type, Overall Quality, Handle Material, Handle Feel, Ease of Opening, Blade Sharpness
Cons: Blade Material, None
Great Knife
This is a fantastic knife in every way imaginable, minus the steel. Wish they'd used better than AUS-8 but the flip, handle ergos, and Field Strip Technology are excellent and plus, it's a Ken Onion design which is good enough for me.
