KUV3471A1: Vanguard V3471A1 Ray Laconico Gemini Folding Knife, Black
Kizer Cutlery

The Vanguard V3471A1 Gemini flipper by Kizer Cutlery is a collaborative project between Kizer and custom knifemaker Ray Laconico of LVKnives, based off his awesome Jasmine flipper. It features a fully flat ground 3.125" stonewashed VG10 blade with a gorgeous drop point shape. The bearing pivot system allows for smooth blade opening, as with all Kizer knives, and the action is quick and snappy. The black G10 handle is slim and definitely one of the most comfortable we've ever held, with nice texturing for grip. It features an anodized titanium pocket clip, stainless steel liners and is sure to become an everyday carry favorite in no time since it's priced well below its design and quality levels.

Kizer uses high-tech wire EDM machines to cut the parts. This method is slower than laser or water jet but Kizer feels quality is worth the wait. Each component in Kizer knives is precision machined and engineered to the finest tolerances. The final fit, finish, action, and sharpness of each knife is achieved entirely by hand, employing the irreplaceable craftsmanship developed by generations of cutlery masters. Dedicated craftsman honoring the long term goal of making the best knives possible is what Kizer brings to you.

Vanguard Series

The Vanguard Series brings excellent value to high-quality designs. Since the start of Kizer Cutlery, they have focused on the high end of the knife market with their impeccable quality and premium materials. This has earned them a place in the hearts of their fans. To increase the accessibility of Kizer brand products, they took the designs of the Bladesmith and Prime Series, and while keeping the quality at the same high level, re-forged them using materials that bring extra value for the money spent. Kizer uses only materials that have stellar performance, such as VG10 for the blades and G10 or stainless steel for the handles. This way, Kizer products are available at all budget levels but still maintain that incredible quality of construction.

Tools share a common goal and purpose. That purpose is performance, reliable to the end. Kizer brings you the Vanguard Series created with the purpose of distilling the essence of the Bladesmith and Prime Series into tools that excel in being used. This may not be your only knife, but this will be the knife you carry and use every day!

Pros: Handle Material, Overall Quality, Lock Ease of Use, Handle Feel, Ease of Opening, None
Cons: Blade Sharpness
Fantastic EDC
This knife is fantastic, especially for it being a chinese produced one (no offense intended). The blade flys out, thanks to a medium to hard detent and also being on bearings. The handle shape and texture is superb, and the fully flat ground blade, along with it's shape and size, perfectly compliment the rest of the knife. For $80, this is easily one of the best, if not the best sub-$100 knives. Heck, possibly even one of the best sub $200 knives. My only gripes are that the pocket clip is so so, seen better, but seen worse, and the blade sharpness. My particular knife came dull out of box. Couldn't cut a piece of paper to save it's life. That being said, if you like liner locks and flippers, you will not be disappointed with the Gemini.

A nice Knife with a Great price
That being said this is a really nice knife that came sharp right out of the box. I wanted this knife as an extra EDC to my Kershaw Flipper. The first think I noticed was not as quick of a flipper as my Kershaw but it has a spring load to it and this one does not. You can watch many videos on this knife on YouTube but to own one is a different matter. The lines are cool along with the blue space at the back which the photos on KnifeCenter does not show. The one thing that I did notice that is a negative is the Pocket Clip. The pocket clip says that it is Titanium but I think that it is stainless steel instead, can't guarantee. The stiffness of the pocket clip makes me think that it is SS and not Titanium. I can tell that it will wear through a pocket of my jeans pretty quickly as it is very hard to clip to. Overall a very nice Knife design by Ray Laconico and made in China. Kizer makes great knives what else can be said.
