KS3920: Shield
Kershaw Knives

Ergonomics is the driving force behind this Rick Hinderer-Kershaw collaboration. Based on Rick Hinderer’s Eklipse model, this Kershaw Shield offers all the “ergos” of the Eklipse at an easy-on-the-pocketbook price.

The tanto blade’s main edge is hollow-ground for excellent slicing capabilities, but that’s combined with a flat-ground tip for strong piercing abilities, too. 8Cr13MoV blade steel offers solid edge-holding capability, strength, and hardness. The all-stainless-steel handle provides deep finger contours for an extremely comfortable and secure grip. Titanium carbo-nitride coating gives the Shield a subtle, no-nonsense look.

The Shield opens smoothly and easily with the built-in flipper and Kershaw’s SpeedSafe assisted opening. A secure frame lock with hardened steel lockbar insert and lockbar stabilizer ensures a reliable lock up. For carrying convenience, the Shield offers a four-position pocketclip for left/right, tip-up/down pocket carry.
Features
  • Flipper - May be used on either manual or assisted opening knives. The "flipper" is a protrusion on the back of the blade that the user can pull back on, or flip, in order to move the blade easily out of the handle.
  • SpeedSafe - Assists you to open any SpeedSafe knife quickly and easily with a manual push on the thumbstud or pull back on the flipper, built into many Kershaw best sellers.
  • Frame Lock - A portion of the handle (the knife frame) moves behind the blade to lock it inot position during use. This is a safety feature of the knife.
  • 4-Position - The user may position the pocketclip for tip-up or tip-down, left- or right- handed carry.

Pros: Blade Sharpness, Lock Type, Handle Material, Overall Quality, Pocket Clip, Ease of Opening, Handle Feel, Weight, Lock Ease of Use, Blade Material
Cons: None
Excellent EDC
I've had it a few months now and carry it every day. I've owned a ton of knives, broke some. lost some, gave many away. For the price, for an EDC knife, I absolutely love this knife. It has a bit of a break in time, but after a couple of weeks it is butter. Ergonomics are superb and I love the weight. Like an extention of my arm.

Not bad but i'd look around some more
I bought this knife for EDC type of use and for that reason it is a good knife, it is sturdy, it does open easily and sits deep in the pocket. The blade is razor sharp and I do like the design which is one of the reasons I bought it. When trying to close this knife, the locking part is very difficult to move, I mean I have to use two hands to close this knife. This knife is also heavy for everyday use, much heavier than other knives I have for EDC. This makes it a bit more uncomfortable than I like for a knife of this sort - you feel & notice it all day long. This knife was rolled out at the 2015 shot show (January 2015), I pre-ordered it but did not see this until JULY 2015! Really folks? All in all it is a good knife for the purpose I bought it for just not quite what I expected, with the delays and the initial price point... well that is why I gave it a 3.

Cons:
Its ok for what it is.....
I am somewhat disappointed by the knife. I like the style, materials, sharpness, good quality, but it has some slight lock-bar stick. While its not a deal breaker I didn't expect it from Kershaw. It should break-in over time. Got it as a birthday present from the wife, so it won't be going anyway. I can't say enough about Knife Center's service......
