CS12DBSJ1: 12DBSJ1 Safe Maker I
Cold Steel
Cold Steel has been making push knifes for a quarter century. In those 25 years, they have continually been refining their designs, discarding features that didn't perform as well as they would have liked and enhancing those that did. These blades, and the wealth of experience that has gone into their manufacture, have paid off handsomely for Cold Steel as they have generated quite a following among law enforcement and military personnel around the world. This is because they offer "big knife" cutting and piercing potential in a very compact, easily portable size, and, unlike a revolver or semi automatic pistol, they never break, malfunction, or run out of ammunition.

Designed by Lynn C. Thompson, the Safe Make push knifes are, without doubt, the finest commercially made push knives in the world. The blade, shaft, and 'T' shaped tang are all drop forged from one piece of VG-1 stainless steel. This process, though costly, eliminates any unwanted sharp edges or surfaces that would irritate the hand or fingers when the knife is clasped in a closed fist, and it produces a better knife, since the subsequent vacuum heat treatment and sub zero quench, renders the blades virtually unbreakable.

Well made blades deserve equally well-made grips. A lot of time and energy went into the production of our 'T' shaped handles. Made of shock absorbing Kray-Ex they totally encapsulate the tang and part of the shaft so they can be comfortably and securely grasped in the fist with the blade jutting out between the fingers and used to deliver absolutely devastating punching and slashing blows.

Each Safe Maker includes an easily concealable and sturdy Secure-Ex boot/belt sheath and a steel bead chain lanyard so it can be worn as a neck knife.

Best Push Dagger available on the market today.
Whether used as a boot knife or as a last resort, these push daggers are hard to beat. A safe maker I saved my life in Afghanistan and in Juarez, Mexico. They will penetrate level IIIA vests and helmets (which are rated for 44 magnum) like a hot knife through butter. Due to the T-shape design, the SM1 allows an operator to strike with a locked wrist, concentrating several hundred pounds of force on the tip of the blade. If you have any experience in boxing or muay thai, this is the knife for you. It quickly transforms your jab and/or cross into a lethal blow. For all of you complaining about its cutting ability: this is a piercing weapon, not a cutting/slashing weapon. For those of you complaining about the sheath: You are right. It is way too tight and the kydex belt clips are not only extremely fragile but nearly impossible to replace. Here is how you deal with this and make your sheath viable for combat: put your sheath in the washing machine with your next load of laundry and remove it before you dry your clothes. Wipe it dry with a towel and apply the blade maintenant of your choice. This will make it 4 to 5 times easier to draw, making quick deployment both effortless and efficacious for high stress scenarios. Second, take advantage of the holes in the sheath by using paracord in a zig zag pattern. This will allow horizontal carry and traction for when you are carrying the SM1 inside the waistband. For quick deployment without a belt or other gear, carry your now-paracorded SM1 on your hip with the flat side of the blade facing away from your torso, and draw it diagonally away from your hip as opposed to straight up or down. It will deploy quickly and effectively every time. I have and will continue to bet my life on it. Heed these instructions and you cannot have a better push dagger. That being said, the VG-1 version is more prone to slight chipping on the tip than the standard version, which is rock solid. If it does chip, spend the ten dollars at your local knife sharpener to have the minor damage remedied. Hope this helps. Sincerely, An unknown and active operator.

Cons: Sheath/Scabbard
Good knife for a collector
Sheath is ridiculously tight. I suggest use an Emory board to file down the two raised areas. I did it & was able to make it so it's easy to remove but still secure. I would like to say that using this for defense or even toting it around could put you in a world of grief. Other than that it's really nice as a collectible.
