BM698: 698 Foray, Satin Plain
Much like its popular predecessor, the 698 Foray offers gent-styling in a larger overall profile, translating to improved handling and all-around utility. The G10 handles are extremely durable, impervious to moisture or liquid and physically stable under climate change.

A patented Benchmade exclusive, AXIS has been turning heads and winning fans ever since its introduction. A 100 percent ambidextrous design, AXIS gets its function from a small, hardened steel bar that rides forward and back in a slot machined into both steel liners. The bar extends to both sides of the knife, spans the liners and is positioned over the rear of the blade. It engages a ramped tang portion of the knife blade when it is opened. Two omega-style springs, one on each liner, give the locking bar its inertia to engage the knife tang. As a result, the tang is wedged solidly between a sizable stop pin and the AXIS bar itself.

Pros: Lock Type, Handle Material, Overall Quality, Pocket Clip, Ease of Opening, Handle Feel, Weight, Lock Ease of Use, Blade Material
Cons: Blade Sharpness, None
Almost Perfect
Although my review is rated 3 i will tell you why. Overall feel is spectacular. Blade steel and thickness is perfect. Handle doesnt have any grippiness but feels great. This is the best knife i own in terms of placing in pocket n removing, very smooth. Blade is sharp out of the box. My issues are 2 and are as follows. First, the blade wobble from side to side. Tightened the pivet screw and it fixed the wobble but then it was super difficult to open n close. Second, is when i close the blade i have the back side pressing inside my palm and depress the axis lock for blade to drop down in closed position. The problem is sometimes when i did that i pressed a bit down on my palm and the blade tip cut tru my palm. Have 4 deep cuts to prove it. I have to say that i love the handle feel n weight but being affraid to close the blade n the wobble made me return the blade. Couldnt handle that feeling. Lastly, from a conversation with Benchmade website chat with their help personel i verified that they only sharpen with 120 grit belt sander and nothing else. I can tell because if u look closely on the edge u can see lots of burrs and it feels n looks like a they cheapened on time spent on sharpening on their blades. I have had several benchmades and all of them r like that. Even their HK brands r the same. I have a Spyderco PM2 and Manix 2 and their sharp edge is simply put best in business. Sooo fine that it looks like a mirror polish.

Not a huge benchmade fan lately as far as fit and finish but this knife changed my mind entirely. Excellent quality, nice thick stock, decent heft but not too heavy and a perfect deep carry clip. I wouldn't change a thing about this knife. Benchmade may have reached perfection on this one.
