  • Flipper - May be used on either manual or assisted opening knives. The "flipper" is a protrusion on the back of the blade that the user can pull back on, or flip, in order to move the blade easily out of the handle.
  • SpeedSafe - Assists you to open any SpeedSafe knife quickly and easily with a manual push on the thumb stud or pull back on the flipper; built into many Kershaw best sellers.
  • Frame Lock - A portion of the handle (the knife frame) moves behind the blade to lock it into position during use. This is a safety feature of the knife.

Pros: Blade Sharpness, Handle Feel, Weight, Pocket Clip
Cons: Ease of Opening, None
Okay for the price
I bought this for a casual carry utility blade. The price was right and it looked a little more interesting than the favored "Oso-sweet", which would likely have been my next choice. At this price point, there's not a lot to complain about and I like the weight and handle ergonomic. Once the blade is deployed, the index and middle fingers fall in nicely to that notch and behind the flipper which provides an extra guard to prevent slippage. Unfortunately, I've only managed to fully deploy and lock the blade once using the flipper and it took a concerted effort to do so. I'm hoping it will loosen up with a little more use but until then I'll have to put up with the annoyance of having to finish the deployment in a second action. Also, I wasn't too pleased with having to pay an extra $4 shipping for the pleasure of getting an unwanted deck of cards. Fortunately, I'm only scoring the knife and not the whole package.

Pros: Blade Sharpness, Overall Quality, None
Cons: Ease of Opening, Handle Feel
Heavy-Duty Cutter
I like this knife overall (I'm not reviewing the cards, sorry). It's nice and hefty, well put together, and has a fearfully sharp blade. One of the problems I've had with previous knives is the screws that hold the whole thing together - they tend to loosen after about a month, and I can't find a matching screwdriver to tighten them with. The screws on this knife have remained tight, and I'm pretty sure I can tighten them myself when the time comes. On the minus side, the smooth handles don't provide much of a grip - some texturing would be an improvement. The blade is just a little too hard to open, and it doesn't always lock on the first try. Still... I do plan to order at least one more of these, so I must not be too displeased....
