Description
CKCBR200C: E.D.A. “Every Day Axe” Folding Tomahawk, Coyote Brown
Combat Ready Knives

Tomahawks are trending! The knife industry has been witness to the development and introduction of dozens of different models of Tomahawks. First we saw a very nicely priced piece come from SOG, then United Cutlery followed up with a great one, more recently we’ve seen CRKT and Gerber’s rendition and we love them all! How else can it be described except that: Tomahawks are trending!

Enter the E.D.A Axe or “Every Day Axe” (as it is affectionately called) by Combat Ready Knives. This tool is a completely different take on the “Tomahawk Trend.” With this blade’s uncanny ability to fold all the way into the handle, this design will allow its user to actually carry the axe in the pocket, it even has a pocket clip to prove it!

The axe has a frame-locking handle on one side, a G-10 overlay on the other side. The blade is designed with a ‘cockscomb spine’ and a nail-nick which allows for two independent opening methods: either traditionally with the thumb or by catching the ‘cockscomb’ on fabric to rotate the blade.

The weight balance of the axe allows for strong swings and deep impacts in a compact size. The design of the handle (when gripped properly at the handle base) keeps the users hand out of the path of the closing blade.

The entire package is secured together using stainless steel chain-ring bolts; a very stout choice for this tool. The construction is minimalist in style, as they say: “with less parts in assembly, less can go wrong.”

Combat Ready Knives is dedicated to “outside the box thinking” in knife designs as well as a firm belief that knives are tools and should continuously be used as such. The momentum that the Combat Ready Knives line has and will only continue as they climb the ladder of recognition within the industry.

Pros: Handle Material, Blade Material, Lock Ease of Use, Handle Feel, Overall Quality, Ease of Opening, Blade Sharpness
Cons: None
Twice as good
I do not know why people are complaining about how dull the edge is on this item, I've managed to cut myself more with this trying to get the closing method locked down than any other blade I have ever owned - it's damned sharp. Razor sharp. For some reason I cannot pin down I really like this tool. It is really right at the edge of being practical in that it is too small and too short to be used for extended periods (apart from stripping bark, etc - for that it's perfect) and it would not substitute for a parang or machete or a multi-functional tool in terms of options for use. But, but - it has heft that belies it's size, the build quality is great, I really like the balance in the hand, the price is hard to argue with and it packs really small. I have two and am thinking of getting some more just in case they stop manufacturing them, just don't ask me why.

Pros: Handle Material, Overall Quality, Handle Feel, Weight, Ease of Opening, None
Cons: Blade Sharpness
As most have noted, it has no edge
What impressed me most was that the "edge" - if you want to call it that - was so dull it would only dent the cardboard box the EDA was shipped in. My wife commented on this immediately. You will definitely need to sharpen this before you can use it as anything but a bashing tool, and for that you don't need to deploy the "blade".

Pros: Pocket Clip, Ease of Opening, None
Cons: Handle Material, Blade Sharpness, Handle Feel, Lock Type
A nice idea, but...
This folding tomahawk is an interesting idea, though way too small to be of any use in "combat", or survival. I did not return it only because of its value as a curiosity. When you come out with a much larger version that has a beefier locking mechanism, more comfortable grip and a wide, flat striking surface on the back of the blade, instead of the useless "rooster crown", so it can be used for hammering, then it could indeed be a valuable tool and weapon, when needed.
