SP196CFTIP: C196CFTIP Walter Brend/Joe Pirela Mamba
Spyderco

What do you get when you combine the talents of noted knife designer Joel Pirela, the skills of master knifemaker Walter Brend, and Spyderco’s state-of-the-art production capabilities? You get the Brend/Pirela Mamba — one of the most advanced factory folding knives ever made. Its gracefully upswept CPM-S30V stainless steel blade faithfully replicates Brend's legendary custom grind lines and showcases them with a contrasting two-toned finish of black titanium carbonitride (TiCN) coating on the bevels and a satin finish on the flats. Special ball bearing washers in the pivot provide a butter-smooth action and allow lightning-fast openings with the blade's integral flipper or its Trademark Round Hole. The unique flipper design offers exceptional opening leverage and serves double duty as a rock-solid hand guard in the open position. An impressive synthesis of style and ergonomics, the knife’s handle is built on a foundation of thick, skeletonized titanium liners that also form the basis of its stout liner lock mechanism. The liners are flanked by meticulously machined solid twill carbon fiber scales that are both visually striking and add additional strength to the knife's structure. To ensure convenient carry and quick access, the Brend/Pirela Mamba includes a contoured, custom-designed pocket clip that supports right-side, tip-up carry.

I collect, will never actually use but this knife, for me does it all, its big slightly weighty, flips well, looks good. I live in England so just owning one is a challenge in itself but I`m up for the challenge

Not your everyday knife
The Mamba doesn't come in the standard Spyderco box, instead it comes with a high quality plush pouch. This knife is well designed and serves as an excellent collection or a self-defence knife. Buyers of this knife please take note that the edge isn't sharpened all the way. Search for the prototype pictures and you'll have an idea. Very sturdy, thick titanium lock, and opens smoothly. The black TiCN coating is amazing, and the carbon fiber handle is spectcular. However, the liner lock is difficult to disenage, and i would not recommend this knife for EDC. But otherwise it's an awesome knife.

Exactly as advertised
This is a beautiful, ergonomic and smooth knife. The carbonitride coating is exactly what it says, not a bluing as another reviewer complained of. There is an awkward little unshaped bit at the back of the blade but it all blends into the blade shape. There is plenty of blade leftover. I am happy with it and it is solidly built and light. I prefer a framelock but the liner lock is stiff and sturdy.
