Pros: Materials, Included Tools, Handle Material, Locking, Overall Quality
Great for fishing
I'm a catch and release fly and spin fisherman. I recently lost a Gerber "Suspension" multi-tool while unhooking a large Brown Trout next to the river (I was so excited after I netted the large fish and removed the hook that I completely forgot I had put the Suspension on a rock next to the river and walked off with it sitting right there!). The sharp pliers of the Gerber are narrow and long enough that I can remove hooks from fish no matter how deep or strangely angled they may be, and gripping hooks firmly with quality pliers and backing them straight out ensures the least amount of injury to the fish. When shopping for a replacement, I wanted the automatic opening pliers which come standard on the Suspension. It's called "Suspension" because the handles gently spring back open keeping the pliers at the ready position. When I found this same feature in the PS4, and then realized this tool is every bit as versatile as the Suspension but costs only two-thirds the price and fits in less than half the space, it seemed an obvious choice. I tested it out recently and it performed very well - though my hands are always wet when handling trout, I didn't really notice the PS4 being slippery in my hand, partly because of the auto opening handles which aid in grip to begin with. Because the tool comes with a well reinforced lanyard hole, I will probably put it on a small retractable lanyard I can pin to my shirt or vest, though the small size of the PS4 made it very easy to just keep it in my pocket when not in use. I only used the knife blade twice for cutting some fishing line I found hanging off a willow, but I never experienced the problem of having trouble extracting the blade that some reviewers mentioned. I will probably buy three or four more of these and keep them on hand in all my tackle boxes and glove boxes! Great little tool and MADE IN AMERICA for an extremely reasonable price.
