Pros: Blade Material, Blade Sharpness, Ease of Opening, Lock Ease of Use, Pocket Clip, Lock Type
Originally disappointed, now a favorite
When I first got this knife, I was rather deeply disappointed. Most of my good knives were Benchmade or William Henry, and the fit and finish on this SOG were a far cry from that on those other knives. Yes, that stud cutout was SHARP! It annoyed me that the thumb ramp didn’t smoothly meet the jimping on the blade. I didn’t really like the plasticky feel of the handle, and I wanted some jimping where the thumb would rest in icepick hold. /// Now, however, it is one of my favorite knives. Over time, the thumb cutout smoothed out. The handles are worn and warm. The blade leaps out with a slight snap of my wrist, and the lock is Solid. I really like the design of the clip. The weight of handles and blade are in terrific balance, you can easily maneuver the knife into different positions. I love the shape of the blade and the quality of its steel. Give this knife a chance, it’ll grow on you.
