BO02BO155: Airforce Pilot Survival Knife
Boker Plus

A Warrior's Workhorse.

A reissue of extremely rare standard issue knife. In the late 1940's, General Curtis LeMay, the head of the Strategic Air Command (SAC), authorized the creation of a survival kit for the crews of the long range bombers. Requirements were to be an effective tool for survival in the wild, with the ability to perform a number of functions to include field dressing and cleaning fish. A must was that the knife had to be lightweight. The Air Force reviewed the Randall Model 14, but deemed it too heavy. Decision makers who were well aware of the "Tree Brand" product requested input from Boker. The initial production of 300 pieces for evaluation resulted in immediate approval and the Boker fixed blade became the official survival knife of the U.S. Air Force. The 8 3/8" overall knife has a 4 1/2" SK5 carbon steel blade, mirror finished. The handle is crafted of leather, with aluminum and brass spacers and pommel. Includes an SAC leather sheath. Weight: 3.6 oz. Made in China.

Leather is known for its durability and traditional appeal. When compared to Kydex it is preferred for its silence when bumped against other objects, as well as blade retention.

Pros: Materials, Overall Quality, Sheath/Scabbard, Finish, Handle Material, Blade Material, Blade Sharpness
Cons: Weight, None
I use this knife in work for everything, it's size and shape is perfect for multiple tasks... Don't know how I lived without it. My only criticism would be the weight, this knife is very light, but I guess that's down to personal preference.

perfectly balanced for real work
Handles effortlessly to perform the normal tasks that we by knives to perform. The quality of the steel is really higher than I expected. The edge is perfect for these tasks and the grip circumference and length balance well with the size of the blade. Quite a nice buy. On the down side, the sheath, though very well made, is too large for the blade; really a mismatch! How can this happen? Looking for an inner sheath that will take up the slack.

Pros: Blade Material, Sheath/Scabbard, Handle Material, Weight, Finish, Overall Quality, Blade Sharpness
Cons: None
It's a small compact knife that's easy to carry. It will do anything that a larger knife will do, excluding chopping. I carry it with me (almost) anytime I plan on being "outdoors".
