Description
TM4804: CBT Combat Breaching Tool
Timberline Knives

The Combat Breaching Tool was developed from real world special ops experience in Africa, Asia, South America and the Middle East. The CBT is designed to perform as a superior fighting tool. The head is crafted with two smooth surfaces to secure and hook limbs for control tactics, take-downs and stripping weapons from attackers. The RAP (rear application piece) is designed for superior cutting, puncture and maximum penetration. The forward edge allows constant contact on impact. The smooth and straight construction of the top spine enables use as an impact tool and for gripping while using the pry feature. The elastomer grip is over-molded to ensure a secure grip, shock absorption and durability. The bottom of the tool features a twelve-degree angle pry tool with an integral nail puller and wire cutter. It includes a custom coyote brown, MOLLE compatible nylon sheath with PVC edge and head protector. Every inch of this robust tool delivers superior performance and no feature was overlooked.

Wow!
A hunk of 440C this size would retail for > $100.00., let alone, a rescue/extraction axe. You don’t see many axes/tomahawks made of 440C. Overkill? Under-kill? Heck, I don’t know, but I know I like the high carbon (edge retention), toughness, and corrosion resistance of 440C in many knife and tool applications. I suspect cost, and difficulty/skill to work with 440C to be the reason we don’t see more ‘hawks in 440C. >>>>>>>> Weak Point: Not crazy about cutting a hole in the middle of a high impact tools. I’m not an engineer, but, it seems there would be greater risk of failure with the gas shutoff wrench cut-out design, when using this axe for cutting/chopping/breaching. We shall see. Not a deal breaker at this price. I’ve had my eye on another rescue axe on, KnifeCenter.com, with the gas shutoff wrench cut-out in a different configuration, but almost 3X’s the price. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Sheath: This is not a quick release sheath, as you would expect with an axe touted as a combat tool, but a nice sheath for storing in the truck/basement/garage. I plan on making a leather, drop-out-the-bottom, quick release sheath, with gas shut-off wrench cut-out in sheath (for added grip), so the sheath can be left on when using as a pry bar. A slip under extreme force while using this as a pry tool, and blade/spike could slice you wide open. Be nice to have some sort of cap on the end of the, “pry tool” handle while using it as an axe, but haven’t figured that out, yet. I may wrap it in padded bicycle tape. A quick slice with a knife would expose the pry tool when needed. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> The spike (or, “Rear Application Piece,” as Timberline calls it) is my favorite spike of all my tomahawks. This thing means business. The bottom edge is like a hollow ground serrated knife blade. I keep getting the Gallagher-esque, urge to breach a large can of baked beans with this thing. So far, I have resisted, but it hasn’t past. This spike (“rap”) is wicked. >>>>>>>>>>>>>> The bit of the axe seems to be angled about right for a breaching axe. Grip is comfortable/grippy with one, or two hands. This T ’hawk measure 13.25” from top of head, to end of handle (pry bar useless as a grip). Well balanced, feels rather quick and spry for an almost 2 lb. tomahawk. This is full tang/handle 440C, no crappy nylon/plastic handle to replace, ever. Everything about this T ‘hawk is well designed, and well executed. For practicality, if you only had one tomahawk, this would be the one to have. I believe this may have collector’s potential. This is an excellent value at this price. You may want to hop on it, before they’re all gone.
