SP54 Full Size Calypso
Made to feel like a natural extension of the hand, this highly refined design is an upgrade of an earlier CLIPIT. It is offered in stainless steel (with a hollow-ground blade), or lightweight black Micarta (with flat-ground blade). The finger choil on both versions provides a smooth transition between the handle and the blade. The "cusp" on each blade spine (above the Spyderco Trademark Round Hole) allows for reliable thumb placement and superior cutting control. The clothing clip is placed just above the pivot pin so that this mid-sized folder sits comfortably deep in the pocket. Large enough to handle substantial chores but small enough for daily carry, the Calypso Jr. is ideal as a general utility tool.Calypso Jr. Micarta Handle. Blade is flat ground.

By Dexter Ewing
This particular knife serves as a good all around utility knife. For a knife this small, it offers two grip positions:
1) There is sort of an integral finger guard (just like the Goddard Clipits) that prevents accidental flesh contact with the edge.
2) The blade tang is shaped in such a way that when the knife is open, there is a thumb rest and a choil, permitting the user to choke up on the knife for precise cuts.
The AUS-8 blade is flat ground, which is also visually appealing in combination with the blade hole. The micarta handles are very smooth and lightweight. The action is surprisingly smooth for a rocker bar lock, even smoother than some side locks I've fiddle with. Somehow the size and shape of the SP52BM reminds me of a Delica. Overall, this knife will make a great utility knife (and an ideal airline travel knife) which also is eye appealing too.
