The Dragonfly Katana captures the essence of traditional Japanese sword craftsmanship in a distinctive and refined form. Featuring a thinner, lighter blade, each sword is individually hand-forged and folded using a unique blend of T-10 tool steel and 1055 carbon steel. This combination produces a striking contrast between the layers and reveals a highly visible hada (the grain pattern created by folding the steel) when polished.
In Japanese culture, the dragonfly symbolized tireless spirit - mirroring the Samurai’s dedication to service. This symbolism is honored in the sword’s tsuba (handguard), crafted from iron and inlaid with copper in the shape of a dragonfly. The antiqued finish evokes the look of weathered iron, while the fittings are designed with historical authenticity in mind.
Finished with a black same (ray skin underlay) and dark brown silk ito (silk handle wrapping), the Dragonfly Katana is both elegant and purposeful. Its lower shinogi (ridge line) and reduced hira-niku (blade belly) make the blade lighter and more agile, offering less resistance when cutting soft targets. The slightly waisted ryugo tsuka (handle) enhances grip and control, favored by many practitioners of Japanese sword arts.
A must have for collectors but very much a functional piece - and we're proud to offer it.
