Description

CS88S: 1796 Light Cavalry Saber

Cold Steel

This saber was widely used by the British and their Prussian allies under General Blucher in the Battle of Waterloo. The blade was derived from the ferocious Indian Talwar and was reviled by the French who protested its use due to the horribly destructive wounds it inflicted. In fact, this saber was so successful as a cutting weapon, that the German Cavalry continued to use it right up to the beginning of the 20th century!

If you want a combat quality saber that will pass the British Proof Test and is fully capable of shearing off arms and even legs with a single blow, this is a must have! It comes fully sharpened with a leather sheath with steel mounts.

The 1796 Light Cavalry Saber comes with your choice of an all steel scabbard or a leather sheath. Both versions feature steel mounts and fittings.

Pros: Blade Material, Handle Material, Overall Quality, Sheath/Scabbard, Finish, Usable
Cons: None
FYI: SHARPENED BLADE
I INTEND TO DISPLAY THIS PIECE ON MY WALL IN THE SCABBARD WITH THE COSMOLINE LEFT ON THE BLADE TO PREVENT RUST.. I LIKE THE WOOD/LEATHER SCABBARD AS IT FITS THE BLADE VERY SNUGLY WITHOUT MOVEMENT. IT GIVES IT THAT AUTHENTIC FEEL AND LOOK. ALTHOUGH I WAS OVERALL VERY PLEASED WITH THIS SWORD, I WOULD HAVE WANTED TO KNOW MORE ABOUT THE "SHARPENED" PART OF THE BLADE. I EXPECTED THE BLADE TO BE SHARPENED FROM POINT TO HILT. IT WAS NOT. IT WAS SHARPENED FROM THE POINT TO ABOUT HALFWAY UP THE BLADE. IF ONE WAS IN A SWORD FIGHT I SUPPOSE THE "BUSINESS END (THE POINT)" OF THE BLADE AND THE PART USED FOR SLASHING IS INDEED THAT AREA, THE PART THAT WAS NOT SHARPENED WAS GROUND SO THAT IT SHOULD EASILY SHARPEN ALL THE WAY TO THE HILT WITHOUT MUCH EFFORT. WITH A LITTLE SHARPENING STONE WORK ON THE FIGHTING AREA OF THIS SWORD AND WITH THE RIGHT POWER BEHIND THE BLOW, IT WOULD INDEED CUT A HUMAN ARM OR HEAD OFF WITH ONE SWIPE. OVERALL IT IS ONE VERY COOL PIECE.
