Pros: Durability, Ease of Use, Effectiveness, Overall Quality
Cons: None
This is the third one I have bought...have used them for many years.
I now own three of these, the first purchased decades ago and still usable, though a bit worn. They are extremely convenient and easy to bring along in the field, and for me adequate to keep a well maintained edge optimally sharp for field use such as gardening, box opening, cutting up cardboard, simple food prep etc..This most recent one seems slightly courser than my older ones, but this type of continuous surface DMT diamond coating wears in a bit with use, and my other two are multiple years old with obvious wear spots. I probably used too much pressure when i was learning to use the older ones. You need minimal pressure with diamond sharpeners. I find these very convenient for field and kitchen knives of the usual US, Chinese and German steels. I believe they are about 600 US grit IIRC. These do not produce a razor sharp edge in my use, but on the knives i use them on that type of edge would not last very long anyway. I often use the finest surface of a Buck 3 grit diamond rod instead, which takes slightly longer to use, is a bit less convenient, but produces a finer edge. if i want to refine edges after using these rods, I use a composition hone with fine feldspar powder. (by Wood is Good)Harder Japanese traditional ("white paper" and "blue paper") steels still get water stones.
