I do really think this is ultimately more for collectors than whittlers - but I am planning on collecting more of these Schrade Old Timers, they are really cool. In theory this pocket knife sounds nice, but really it's just a little too fiddly to open everything and actually use it in practice. A lot of these Old Timer knives are viable EDC or outdoorsy tools; this is something you show off to your buddies.
So, for collectors: this is an excellent 5/5 knife. The craftsmanship is superb, I like the Delrin, the novelty is fun, and it looks great. Show it off to your buddies, it's a cool knife. Maybe sort of a toy :)
For users: I do think that if you plan on going into the woods with a minimal kit and do some carving with just you and the birds, you might consider bringing this. The tools are quite sharp out-of-the-box, seem easy to strop, and are well-made. I just did a little testing with them on some scrap wood - yep, they cut wood. It does seem like you might want a lock on the scorp/bowl etc, things that remove a lot of wood, but I haven't used it enough to be annoyed. It's not really a toy, it's a viable tool
The only flaw I've noticed is that the chisel is very annoying to open, you almost need a separate tool. Maybe it'll loosen up a bit with use. I suppose detailed work might be awkward with this, but that isn't really a flaw so much as a limit in design: there is a reason proper carving knives have big palmy handles. If you don't want to bring a satchel of tools with you, consider this instead. It'll look good on the shelf if you don't like it for real carving.
