SP306UF: Ultra Fine Bench Stone

Spyderco®

Spyderco's 3" X 8" ultra-fine ceramic benchstone is flat, thin and ultra smooth for professionally finishing and sharpening wide tools like chisels, large blades, wood-working equipment, plane irons, even ski and snowboard edges. Made from Alumina Ceramic, it is manufactured in the United States using a process where a binding agent is combined with Alumina particles that are actually synthetic sapphires. The stone is shaped then kiln fired to temperature of 3000 degrees F (1649°C). Alumina ceramic stones measure 9 on the Mohs hardness scale (out of 10) and don’t require lubricants like oil or water for use. The ultra-fine grit stone tightens and smoothes the cutting edge’s scratch pattern for an even keener, hair popping edge. The stone is thin and light enough for hand held use, taking the sharpening surface directly to larger items. We recommend when tabletop sharpening, using the stone on top of its’ suede carrying case for slip free use. To clean the stone, wash it in fresh water and scrub with a powdered abrasive cleaner and a scouring pad. Rinse and air dry. 3" X 8"X 5/16" (76.2mm X 203.3mm X 8mm).

Spydie ceramic stone-simple but effective
This is a great system for quick on the go and “in between or uncommon grit sizes. As this stone is up the ladder as far as fineness there are some out there even finer. Things I like about this stone is the simplicity with which it works. No water required though I do use a cutting oil on board to keep shavings from stopping the stone up. To clean I put some liquid on and I have a bristle brush I scrub with to get back to clean. Never use a wire brush but a plastic pan scrubber should work well. Mentioned before, the grit or micron size can be different than some diamond sharpening systems which could be the jumping off stone point and going on to strop. These finer grits may also be the last needed to produce a great working edge for a particular steel. The last two super steels I worked on this stone with were Rex121 and m4 which both were very hard and proving the fact these benefitted from being sharp from Pryor stone used. If dulling, either of these steels would take a long time to abrade enough material off before getting a desired result. Nice touch shipping the stone with its personal leather pouch. Very handy esp. if stone was dropped and used to break the fall. In summation I like a knife sharpening liquid to keep saving particles from clogging and a good scrub cleaning after use. This way u are already to work when next knife comes around. Patience is required esp. when working the true super steels. The m4 blade seemed more content after final passes. Toothy edge just needing final strop passes to be ready to work. Rex121 didn’t receive the toothiness so next went to finer diamond grit before final strop. Definitely benefited from Spydie UF CeramicStone. Eliminated a step and helped progression time to be cut down. All in all a definete plus in the grand sharpening scheme and will be a valued tool in the future’. Will be very valuable in establish the routines on these super steels. Happy sharpening and hope this was helpful for folks in a similar sharpening situation. Regards, Heart_o_Tex

A great Spyderco product
This Spyderco Bench Stone just like their Golden Stone, is a great Spyderco product, Spyderco started their Company making quality sharping products, so it's no surprise that all their sharping stones remain the standard of quality for sharping needs. My Spyderco Bench Stone "Micro Fine" arrived finished 100% flat with a perfect finish on all sides, and with just a few strokes put a mirror finish on my Kershaw Blackout with Sandvik 14c28n steel. When needing a bench stone for putting a great finish on a already fairly sharp blade, or just a quick tune up on a used blade this Spyderco stone will meet the demand with ease. After a lot of use the stone can be returned to as new condition just by using a powdered abrasive cleaner and a nylon or non-metallic scouring pad with water allow it to air dry after cleaning and it's also dish washer and autoclave safe. And as always the Knife Center provided quick shipping with great packaging to make sure my stone arrived safely.
