Good SHTF survival spear to keep packed away!
Wow, this thing is much nicer than I expected! Arrived securely in a slender cardboard box within a larger padded box; was simple to open and assemble without too much hassle. The shaft seems really sturdy, a little wobbly once screwed together but not too much so and not at the joint; the pieces fit together quite well and it only took a few minutes to get this ready to go, the same with disassembly (I prefer to keep the protective aluminum tube over the top half in order to cover the exposed brass thread). The yari- type head itself, while being stainless steel, is sufficiently good- quality for a survival spear, with the added bonus of being rust- resistant and quite easy to maintain in addition to being sharp right out of the box. Upon ordering this item, I was quite worried about how the scabbard would turn out but to my surprise the thing seems fairly sturdy and well- vulcanized, it's a cinch to reattach to the spear head by handling it by the nylon button strap and slipping the cover on. This spear penetrated a watermelon effortlessly, was not as top- heavy as I would've thought and was intuitive to use, it's best gripped near the bottom 1/4 of the shaft with one hand and at the aluminum tube with the other. This would make an awesome emergency hunting implement after a natural disaster as the shaft seems fairly sturdy and made of a quality synthetic material. Didn't throw it but the bottom is tapered so it should do well within a reasonable distance, the butt is a rubber grommet screwed onto the tip. All in all a very practical, good length spear that you don't have to worry about taking up closet space or bowing, splitting and rusting from years of neglect!
