Pros: Materials, Balance
Cons: Weight
Very smooth, positive action
I use this as a deterrent for the large dogs often roaming free in my neighborhood. Have never actually had to take a swing at one, just deploying the baton seems to be enough. Likely it's just a case of having a more assertive energy with a means of defense in my hand, but whatever, they move away. Much easier to carry than a fixed, long stick. Would probably buy aluminum version if doing it again, as the steel gets somewhat heavy in my pants pocket on really long walks. Just check your local laws--my concealed carry permit allows me to have this with me, but that varies state to state.
