First EDC balisong; absolutely love it.

Bear Ops has outdone themselves with this one. I know Bear and son balisongs get a reputation for being lower end, but this is a total exception. The butterfly action is buttery smooth. The latch's little spring works perfectly and is very helpful. The weight of the knife overall is great, balance is great, and it packs in the hand/pocket so much slimmer than the pictures suggest. The 4.49" blade seemed long to me, but feels like the organic natural length in person. The 154CM blade came with an arm shaving edge out of the box, and the blade stock just feels so solid. The knife feels like total solidity in construction at all the pivots, and I can barely believe I'm not holding a fixed blade when it's latched open. It's just so damn sturdy. Lastly, the pocket clip is outstanding, makes a less noticeable line outside the pocket than a spyderco deep carry. Honestly, I can feel this knife turning into a personal favorite, and I've had it less than 12 hours. Great work by Bear Ops!

Top Quality, Super Sharp

The Bear OPS Bear Song VIII is a top-quality American-made knife. It is sharp enough to use for surgery. Scary sharp. I don't recall ever cutting myself with any of my other pocket knives before, but I've cut myself with this one three times in the past month since my wife gave it to me for Christmas. I own a couple of Benchmade knives in 154CM and S30V, and this one is far sharper than those. The bearings make for very smooth opening and closing, and there is no play anywhere; this knife feels solid either open or closed when the latch is shut. The latch is a little stiff when trying to secure it with one hand, but it pops open easy enough when the handles are squeezed together. The only thing I would change would be to lower the pocket clip maybe half an inch; it gets hung up in my pockets the way it is. I would recommend the Bear OPS Bear Song VIII to anybody looking for an excellent butterfly knife.

Good knife for the price

Great beginners butterfly. Plenty of heft and was larger than I expected. Only problem mine has is the safe handles pivot keeps loosening. Just enough looseness to create play. For around $100 I can’t complain except I want to upgrade to a $300 Bali soon.

Positive reviews led me astray

Screws back out despite thread locker, handle play and blade tap. I just want to return it and get something better.. would not recommend. So close, I really wanted to like it. Blade is beautiful and handles, latch are nice.. but doesn't want to stay in one piece. Can't decide on another lucha or finally BM model
