Shori Gentlemens Folding Knife is and excellent EDC
It is what I was looking for--an excellent EDC with a blade under 3". I use it for opening packages and mail, preping food at the office, cutting out articles, cutting off threads and many more tasks. The blade locks securely and its shape is highly adaptable to many uses. The design and texture of the scales assure a solid non-slip grip, and they're attractive. The button release for the lock was a surprise, but I'm getting used to it.
My 483 Shori is a very nice knife . Its well designed and made with top of the line materials . Nice looking ,very sharp , just the right size for your pocket . and doesn't scare anyone when you pull it out to use it . It is a gentlemens knife not so much for doing heavy duty chores with , I'll use my other knives for that . The only thing I don't like is how it opens the thumb stud could have been designed better , and this knife is a little pricey . I'am happy with this knife . FC . .
I have been carrying a keychain knife for years and finally took the plunge on a "real" knife. What a difference! This Shoki is crazy sharp and well built. It fits comfortably in my pocket and is not shockingly large when I take it out in front of clients, etc. the only reason I'm not giving a five star review is that the thumb stud is a little tight to the handle. I'm getting used to it but I don't think I'll try flicking it open like the YouTube guys.
I bought this knife for EDC & dressing small game (e.g. pheasant, rabbit, grouse, turkey) . The blade shape is ideal for splitting the pelvis on cottontails and it is capable of gutting a deer in a pinch. The S30V blade steel seems good, but for my purposes not much different from ATS34, RWL34, or CPM154. The thumb stud is somewhat uncomfortable for me as it is small in diameter. After I had the knife for a few weeks the thumb stud came off. The liner lock is almost impossible to work without it. There was also a small amount of up and down movement in the open blade as the liner lock was not rock solid. This is my first liner lock knife so I thought perhaps this was normal. I returned the knife to Benchmade for repair. After some time (the turnaround time was not fast) I got the knife back NC. The thumb stud has been secure so far and the blade play eliminated. The knife carries nice in my pocket.
I agree with other reviewers. This knife has so much potential...the beautiful design, practical blade shape, excellent steel. BUT, it is a pain to open one-handedly. The thumb stud is too small, too close to the scales and too high on the blade. The leverage is terrible and I just could not get to where I could flick the blade out consistently with any ease. I sold mine...no use keeping a knife I'm never going to carry because I can't quickly open it.
