This is my third Benchmade Kahamura and the most well rounded performer. The knife, like it's lineage is sturdy yet "slick" in feel. Light in the hand concurrent while inspiring quality performance. I love the shape, handles, blade and operation. The other Knakamura's I have are equally performant but slightly heavier. I carry the knife daily but do switch off to another every now and then. Bottom line a beautiful knife that performs flawlessly while instilling confidence in it's quality performance. Get one. You will be pleased.
Being new to knives, I researched my options for an EDC knife quite carefully. I found the Knife Center website to be excellent, and one of the best of any type I've ever used. Mass is not one of the easiest states for this type of purchase so I was restricted regarding blade length, and had to avoid any sort of assisted opening. I was attracted to the benchmade 484-1 by the carbon fiber grip and the exotic S90V blade steel. In the hand the Nakamura is wonderfully balanced. Cliched as this may be, it really becomes an extension of your hand. I carry it at all times but have used it only lightly thus far. The blade was and is extremely sharp. Thoroughly recommended.
This has to be by far the best feeling knife to hold in your hand. Everything from the finger cutouts in the handle, to the jimped thumb ramp, and even very naturally comfortable to put your thumb on top of the blade past the jimped ramp. Slightly loosening the pivot screw allows the blade to swing freely, which makes for very easy opening and closing by pulling back on the AXIS lock. Also, it makes it easy to flick your wrist and open the blade WITHOUT touching the AXIS lock, both in standard holding position, as well as underhanded. In either case, the blade opens as fast or faster than an assist or automatic. No issues with the pivot screw loosening so far. The only "con" (because I felt I needed to pick on something) is the pocket clip, which is very strong. This is an issue, IMHO, on all Benchmade knives. I always bend them up a little bit so they barely touch the knife. This prevents the clip from eating a hole in your pants over time, and makes for easier deployment. But, finding something wrong with this knife is a stretch Finally, the obvious - S90V!! Carbon fiber!! Blue anodized accents!! This is definitely a #1 EDC knife.
This is my first Benchmade product, and the quality of workmanship is better than any other semi-custom knife I own. The blade came shaving sharp, the Axis Lock performs flawlessly allowing one handed closure. The carbon fiber scales not only look great, but help in reducing weight as well, and the blue anodized hardware really pops against the black CF. I think the pocket clip is okay, but could have been a little better. It is very stiff and I had to bend it upwards just a touch to make pocket entry / exit a little smoother or easier. Their is one small annoyance I have found with this knife that I'm not sure how you'd correct ? Sometimes when pulling it out of my pocket, the thumb stud catches on the inside of my jeans pocket, and partially deploys the blade.....have already cut myself a couple of times.....BUT.....this is still my favorite EDC knife to date. I would buy it again for sure.....maybe add the 464 model with the wooden handles to my collection. ;-)
