Very cool blade!

XL quality & function. The M390 steel stays incredibly sharp. Like the size of the Nakamura in my pocket - not too long or bulky. 3 inch blade is all I need for "EDC" Have had compliments from my " knife freak friends"

5/5 would buy again

I use this knife as an EDC out on the ocean and forests (in addition to household chores) of SE Alaska through some pretty grimey crap and it has never failed me or dulled for that matter. From gutting a fish, dressing squirrels, to minor bushwhacking I have just about done what I could expect and more with this 'small' pocket knife. There is a good portion of belly to this knife for a great optimal cutting surface to it and a great point for piercing through. Phenomenal purchase and I would easily buy it again for a family members birthday coming up.... I have dipped this knife into ocean water before and wiped it on my jeans both sides... NO RUST afterwards! Amazing. I initially purchased this as a test-run for the M390 steel and tooling around with it but it has by far turned into my favorite knife because IT WORKS and it looks bad#ss! During the one month or so of ownership I have only had to strop it for about 5minutes or less once to getting it back to hair-popping sharp. The action (flipping the blade out) can get crap in it as expected with any non-fixed blade but that's part of the beast and it only takes rinsing it out with soapy water to get it back in regular function. Very light for a folder, the jimping is aggressive in combination with the contours makes an extremely solid hold. My only gripe about it is there is some wiggle to the locking mechanism surprisingly coming from Benchmade's AXIS. It's a minor complaint though considering the blade's range of intended uses. Still has yet to give out on me though! All in all though, worth the money, by far. My go-to EDC.

A great pocket companion!

A perfect EDC blade with the blade length not too big to spook the easily-frightened, a sculpted wood handle with orange accents to appease the visuals and the M390 steel to satisfy the steel snobs. The action is smooth, especially after applying some lube, and carries well. Definitely recommend!

Bought as a gift for my husband. He really likes it. Carries it everywhere. It's much smaller and lighter than what he was carrying, which he really appreciates. Operates very smoothly and he likes the finish of the handle.

Nakamura

Don't know what I could add that hasn't already been said. Another fine example of Benchmade quality I've come to expect. I've liked the AXIS lock since I first laid eyes and fingers on it some time ago. The M390 is easy to work with. As mentioned the exclusive for KC made it an even sweeter deal. Something tells me this beaut will stay in my pocket a bit longer than usual as I rotate ECDs on a fairly regular basis. I highly recommend this knife.

Wonderful surprise

I have been waiting to pull the trigger on the nakamara carbon fiber but when I saw this, I easily changed my mind. What a beautiful knife. Hair shaving sharp out of the box. The handles are amazing. My fingers fit each groove perfectly. Between this and my Crooked River benchmade ( wood handles), I am set for life

Another awesome Knife

I utilize this knife as another EDC in my collection, was eyeing a Nakamura for sometime, but didn't pull it until I saw this exclusive one. It is razor sharp, and very smooth. Over the normal knife, this has the super M390 steel as well as the AXIS locking system.

Giggidy giggidy goo (484-1601)

My wife purchased this for me as a belated Father's Day gift and it arrived today (awesome shipping by KnifeCenter). Even though I knew this was a small knife, I was still a little surprised when I opened the box. My surprise in its smallness was quickly replaced by my shock in its fit and finish. The word scales are stunningly beautiful. Even though the handle is small, it's shockingly comfortable to my medium sized hands. I think this knife might be more comfortable than my BM 551-1304. The orange pillars and pivot collar match the scales beautifully. The blade came centered but a bit tight. Made some micro adjustments to the pivot and it's now perfect. I couldn't be happier with this new blade. I haven't even used it yet and I think this is going to be my new favorite EDC. Incredible job Benchmade! And great customer service KnifeCenter. You just won a new customer.

Great Knife from a great Company

Love the steel. Benchmade does great M390. The wood handles provide more grip that I thought. It's a 4 finger handle but my fingers don't end up in the right spot. As for the thumb stud issue catching on clothing, I called Benchmade and they found other studs that fit this knife. They sent them to me FOR FREE. Since installation, the studs have never caught on my pocket. BTW, Benchmade also sends free deep carry pocket clips. Awesome company and customer service.

Fantastic Knife

This knife's functioning is smooth as glass. It's handles are stunning; and although its wood scales are treated, I placed some Music Nomad brand F-1 Guitar Fretboard 100% natural oil onto them. Lemon oil, etc. can actually damage wood over time; and contrary to popular belief, the preferential lemon oil has acid which can cause future problems on wood and the separation of any gluing, inlays, etc. This knife is stunning. I like it better than my former birthday gift: Benchmade 940-1 which is lighter weight, but it has a larger blade which has been legislated upon while in a concealed carry mode. Sad but true. Knife laws are rampantly becoming underhandedly imposed upon us all in many States, and small towns, where you would not believe it would happen. Although this knife is just minutely over 3" {the popularly legislated norm}, it should not cause a law enforcement problem for you in my mind's eye. I was pleasantly surprised when I received this knife today; and its similarity in design functioning is much smoother than my 940-1. Don't pass this knife up. knifecenter.com has performed a wonderful proprietary differentiation of this Benchmade model. I'm not a fan of serrated blades too. Overall, I am pleased-as-punch having made for this knife's purchase even though we are tight with money. I am older and definitely know knives; and I have nothing to say bad about this knife; and even though this model's handle is a bit shorter, it is comfortable and just right, so don't let this factor deter your making for its purchase. I would not spend my time - especially having owned it for four hours - writing this review if I didn't feel that it is exceptional in all respects. Way to go knifecenter.com! Your team have made for me to actually consider and then make for the purchasing of this model of Benchmade knife. Assuredly, I would not have done so if you had not made for this handsome/stunning design which is absolutely flawless. I also purchased a small size Benchmade nylon sheath for it even though it has its belt clip; and this accompanying purchase was made for several reasons outside of having a split second deployment. This style of blade shape will make for multiple forms of usage without question. hanks to the smart styling of the blade wherein the positioning of its opening stud is farther away, and coupled with the beveling/removal of the wood at this section, it tremendously aids toward the ease of reaching this stud and opening this blade as fast as lightening. The Benchmade 940 model line is difficult to open due to its not having these features, and its blade stud being closer to the handle and its stud having a functional appearance of being lower. No room to find error in the design and function of this proprietary knifecenter.com stabilized wood handle model of this Nakamura model line.

Nice knife, minor complaint.

Great knife by a customer oriented company. Some complained of the thumb studs, and they do kinda suck. They are bearable though. My complaint is the tip of the pocket clip. It catches things easily. Wish it didn't stick up so far. Otherwise...butter smooth action. Locks tight. Holds an amazing edge. And god steel. Those who complained of having a hard time sharpening....send it to benchmade. They do it for free. They also will look the knife over for any other issues and send it back. I have a backup knife. And a backup to my backup. I suppose that only is an issue of this is your only knife.

Simply Outstanding

I’ve always wanted a 484 and had a tough choice between this and the S90V model, but the materials and orange accents won me over. It’s definitely more on the gentlemanly side, but thanks to its materials and solid build, it can easily tackle more strenuous tasks. The M390 blade has a light stonewash finish and is gorgeous (and was perfectly centered right out of the box). The thumb studs are a bit rough, but I adapted to them quickly. My particular model has uneven grinds, too, but that can be corrected. The jimping is incredible — your thumb won’t be going anywhere. The blade deploys like a dream, either with your thumb or a flick, and the lockup sound is amazing (as is the lockup itself). The handles are incredibly ergonomic. I can see how people that bought the G10 version of this knife might have gripes with the deep scale grooves, but the smaller, shallower grooves on this model are just right. The wood scales are lovely; they’re slick and smooth, but the finger and scale grooves account for that well. The handle is similar in length to a mini griptilian, so this might not be right for you if you have larger hands. But if you can comfortably hold a mini-grip, then this would work well for you. The handle thickness is great, too — I read some comments that it’s too thick, but it “fills in” your hand well when you’re holding it. Of course, the arrow pocket clip isn’t my favorite and will be replaced. The orange pivot collar and barrel spacers add just the right amount of pop. Overall, it’s a great addition to my EDC and won’t be leaving my pocket anytime soon. It’s a joy to flick open and close, with the Axis lock wearing in nicely. Definitely recommend this one if you’re at all interested in a Nakamura.

Excellent knife, love flicking it open. Thumb studs can pull on my pocket and open the blade depending how I take it out which is an advantage for me. The wood scales and anodized hardware is stunning. Everyone loves this knife. Its smaller than I thought it would be. Blade steel is excellent also, takes a while to form a burr tho.

Absolutely Gorgeous, One Minor Flaw

The 484-1601 Nakamura AXIS is ludicrously beautiful. Its combination of contemporary and classic styling and detailing demanded that I buy it - and I'm not even a collector. I agree with other users that the blade thumbstuds can catch on clothing when un-pocketing the knife - particularly if you're using the clip to stow it. This prevented me in all good conscience from giving it 5 stars. However, this is really just a little quibble. The overall feel and finish of the knife and its excellent M390 blade make it one of the best folders I've used. So much so that I almost feel like buying another one - so that I might have one to use and one to keep in pristine condition.

Great looking little knife but.....

Just recieved this beauty, I like this knife dont love it that much for just over $200 maybe a solid $120 . Checking it out in hand and scratching head at same time while writing this review. Seems like benchmade tried to make it look like the crooked river the one with the wood handle. When I recieved the crooked river knife for $178 bucks I was totaly satified no scratchin of the head with this one and it brought a smile on my face , you know the look when you recieved something you know is the **** , and well worth the price. This knife ,well I just dont know. Maybe if it were just a tad bit bigger and better treatment on the wood handle also dont know how well it will hold up if it got wet or and sweatey. Thats why I give it 4 stars I might get use to it but for now still scratchin head at price $200 bucks I think the crooked river was a way better bargain and feels excellent in hand. But all in all like it alot just not for $200 not feelin it

I expected more

Don't get me wrong. Knife is a Benchmade so four stars are already earned for this knife.....Now, the wood handles are not particularly well inked....intentioinal partial discoloration is not well done and result is a mediocre finish. It is almost imposible to adjust blade to avoid some play. Too tight blade will not flip open freele, little....Little less tight there is some blade play. Now take care when closing blade using midlle finger and thumb to unlock as you rest the lower part of the scales in your palm; try not to squeeze too much on both sides as you can make blade catch some flesh on your palm as blade is too near the tip of the knife. Nakamura should be a bigger knife to become handsomer. I really was disappointed as I my small griptillian peforms better at a much lower price.

Change of thought

I wrote a review about this beauty about a month ago, I returned the knife, tried to like it hated the price for its small size and blade stick issues which I will explain . Agreeing with one prior review , the m390 steel used , which holds a hell of an edge and excellent corrosion resistance is a major plus for me considering the type of climate I work in . When I first ordered this knife I loved the deployment and found myself playing with it a lot like a kid with a new toy. And of coarse , the looks of the knife is eye candy . I soon changed my mind to give it a second chance after reading more reviews and being that I like Benchmade knives and mine might have been a defect , so I reordered . One major problem I still have with this knife which isn't a defect is that the blade sticks a lot when exposed to moisture , which is one of the biggest reason why I retuned the knife being unsatisfied with its failing action . Giving it a chance thinking it might just need to be broken in over time but the blade was still sticking badly . Being that my job consist of outdoor activity and summers get pretty hot humid here in Philly when you sweat a lot it will definetly causes the to blade stick and function poorly. I found out once dried and aired out it will function normally again over time . Never experienced this with any other benchmades or my other knives. Maybe, it's because of the wood handles swelling when exposed to moisture. Problem with that is , what kind of wear and tear if any this might be causing on the wood handles over time and how they will hold up . also like others stated the thumb studs do kinda suck , depending on how you tend to deploy the knife . It functions kinda like the wave deployment on some emersons , that's to be considered if you like that type of wave deployment . And after all that said I'm leaning more towards saying it is worth the price excellent materials used but the damn blade sticks the minute it gets damp.

BM 484-1601

I use the knife as an edc. It is a beautiful knife, fun to use, great m390 steel, and has become my latest favorite. I knocked it one star because of the same issue Terrance mentioned. I was on vacation this last week and the knife got wet a couple times while in use. To my surprise the pivot became very stiff for a couple days and then slowly over the course of about 3 days it loosened back up to like new. I think the wood scales swelled and put extra pressure on the pivot. Still very happy with my first Benchmade.

Excellent

Beautiful knife, great steel, fantastic design. Be aware that the thumbstuds on this model are relatively tall and have a tendency to snag on your pockets. More often than not, the blade will partially deploy as it is retrieved. Thus, I had to dock a star. I chose to embrace this little quirk though: if you draw quickly the blade will fully deploy and lock open. I own a few emersons, so I'm used to this kind of behavior from a knife and it poses no problems for me. It is something to be aware of, though. Also, disregard what the previous reviewer said about the blade material: he is mistaken. The majority of high-end steels these days are manufactured using powder metallurgy; m390 is a hell of a blade steel that takes a wicked edge and holds it for ages.

More expensive than what you get

I received mine in a good shipping package. I was really shocked because this is not what you expect to see. Handle material was not what I thought. It has a lot of small scratches on it. Like every other Benchmade knives, the opening assist lock is too much loose and when you do a little wrist move it won't lock at the lock position and come back to gets close. This knife is nice but for a price under 100$.

good function, great looking knife

Solid made Benchmade knife--quality one would expect. Scales are firm and feel good to grip. Handle is smaller than I would have liked or expected. I occasionally use for EDC--not a working knife for me. Blade wasn't extremely sharp out of box, but sharpened nicely. I have not used long enough to know how it holds the sharpness.

Great knife, terrible thumbstuds :(

I saw this knife and pulled the trigger on it immediately. It has turned out to be a major disappointment, though, due to the thumbstuds on it acting as a not-quite-wave feature that snags on my pockets and causes the knife to partially deploy. At first I thought it was just a little quirk I could ignore, but then I managed to stab myself in the hip one day and that's when I pulled it out of my carry rotation. Pros: ============== * Looks great, it's a really pretty knife * Feels great, if a little small, in use--the thumb ramp and jimping there is great * Axis lock, 'nuff said Cons: ============== * Terrible tall thumbstuds that snag on pockets and wave the knife half open * Bonus terrible tall thumbstud feature, the hole for the screw is too small to swap in the thumbstuds from any other knife I tried (and I tried a bunch) * It's a bit small for a full four finger grip, unless you have small/medium hands I love this knife, but hate the thumbstuds. I would give it five out of five otherwise, but as it's just a pretty paperweight now I had to dock a couple. :(

Not Impressed

Hard to sharpen, I have owned several benchmades, but this will be the last one... It is a solid knife, and the action on it works smooth, but the steel is harder than petrified wood pecker lips. No need for me to write a novel, and for whoever purchases this knife I hope you have a good solid bench sharpener and not a hand held.

Observe in person first

If it's possible, you're better off handling the knife YOU THINK YOU WANT in person before you decide to buy it. This isn't always the case but, I was able to hold one of these recently. The steel was dull, and also lacked luster. The handle was nice but that was about it. It didn't feel right in your hand. I'm still a bit skeptical of the axis lock system compared to a proven opposite which is the lockback. To me it just doesn't feel as secure when it's under pressure. There are better Benchmade's than this for less money.

Asked Knife Centre to check for blade centering.

The knife is beautiful but both the Knife Centre and Benchmade breached my trust. I had only ONE condition w my purchase and that was they look at the knife for blade centering, before shipping. They did not and consequently I spend +200 on a seriously off centre knife. I will be returning it. Benchmade is also at fault for allowing this to go to market.
