51BK Balisong

I have had many butterflies in my life and this one is one of the best. The weight and balance of the knife are good. The knife is not as sharp as other benchmades that I have had and the price is high for a balisong. It is a quality knife and I have recommended to friends.

Elegant, beautiful knife :D

I didn't want the coating because i love seeing the steel however D2 is known to be semi stainless so it does rust. This is my first butterfly knife but i absolutely love it. I tend to go all out so i won't feel the need to buy another. I havent had a benchmade disappoint, except from emptying my wallet. The one real gripe i do have is that benchmade no longer sales leather sheaths, and no sheath comes with the knife. However the clip does work fine making it an non-concealed carry as well as aiding in knowing which is the bite handle(which is very well named). The other smaller grip is the wish they made it with S30V steel, but it isn't a wilderness knife. If you're wondering about the handles it is low weight, and might taking some getting used to.

light, comfortable, and sturdy

Surprised with the weight, it flips with ease. When locked the blade has no play and is very sturdy. Great for a carry Balisong!

Simply a great balisong.

The benchmade 51 is the baseline for any serious flipper. Yes there are more expensive/nicer blades out there, but for the price and quality the benchmade 51 is the place to be. Smooth flipping, great feel, seamless transitions, and excellent craftsmanship. The handles are a bit light, so you can always add some heavier scales the really enhance your flipping experience. Overall, you will not regret adding this knife to your balisong collection.

Great Balisong!

Not only is this balisong a great flipper, but with the D2 steel blade, the G10 handles, and the pocket clip, the 51 becomes a great EDC knife. Very sharp coming from the factory and the black coating looks sick! Of course don't expect it to stay looking perfect if you're going to be flipping it and using it to cut, and be aware of your state's laws concerning balisongs. There was a little too much handle play out of the box for me, but a little loctite and it is feeling wonderful so far! Some people complain about the weight, but I think it feels fine. It is light but not light enough to really affect your flipping after some time to adjust. I'm no expert flipper by any means, but it's just my opinion. The BM51 has to be one of the best production balisongs on the market right now!

Balanced, Smooth and Sharp

This was my first Benchmade Bali-Song knife. I have used Bali-Songs in the past and thought it was time to step up to the big leagues. I ended up order three different Bali-Songs the 51S, the 51BK and the 62. I was a little leery of the weight of the handle that is the reason I ordered a 62. When I received the knife I was pleasantly surprised how nice the action was and the weight seemed to be a good weight. If the handle was just a bit heavier it would be perfect. I would say if the handle was solid titanium it would be perfect. There are times when I over flip because of the light weight, but I think with time I will learn the weight and get better with it. The knife is extremely sharp, fun to flip, and easy to carry. I would recommend this knife to anybody that was thinking about a Bali-Song. I do like my 62 but it is a little heavy and a little slower.

excellent build quality, if only they used better steel for blade

the only downside to this knife is the D2 used for the blade, while being a very durable steel i would have liked something stainless for everyday carry

Great Benchmade Quality as usual

This is my first ever Bali-Song, so as far as how it performs as such I cannot really say. However this is not my first Benchmade and as usual the quality and feel is as good as ever. Shaving sharp out of the box much to the detriment of my fingers, but great to see. Feels solid when latched, which is impressive considering how fluid it feels when unlatched. The only minor complaint I possibly have is that the liner coloring is not as vibrant or uniform as seen in pictures. But one could argue this makes it unique, in the future I may go down the path of trying to color it some more myself.

Very surprised with the mechanisms!

Love the locking mechanism. It’s very quick to open with it having a spring when you pinch the handles together then you can lock it in the open position. Didn’t know about this before I bought it. It’s sometimes hard to close the lock as the handles are flexible and you have to meet them evenly to lock it. Not necessarily a con but should be mentioned. Also really enjoy the pocket clip!

You kidding me?

I bought a Benchmade because i wanted a butterfly knife that would last me a life time instead of buying cheap 20$ butterfly knives. The first day i got this knife, 3 SCREWS came right off including latch after dropping it. Now i don't even bother to flip it anymore. I might as well just stick with my 20$ knife instead of wasting so much money on something like this again.
