High quality svelte & light

If you want a super lightweight thin pocket knife this is it. With the G10 handle it's a lot more desirable to the touch than the 530. The overall quality is top notch. I've had very high end microtech's, customs, etc. For a mere $144.00 this is a great buy. It's perfect for conceal carry with any kind of attire. It's so light and svelte you will not even be aware you are carrying it.

Ideal Gentleman's Tactical EDC

Benchmade gets the folding boot knife right! This model has actually been in the Benchmade line for a very long time (model 530), but with a double ground blade and a Grivory (high performance polyphthalamide) handle. The fact that it has been in the product line so long, testifies to the fact that a fair number of people recognized its qualities. My reaction to the 530 was, double ground dagger, that's not utility, partial liners in a plastic handle, that's not tactical...right or wrong on my part, Benchmade has taken the performance of this design to a whole new level with the full flat ground blade and G-10 handle. The thin 531 blade cuts like a razor, the lightweight construction makes it carry as if it weren't even there, and the G-10 handle provides ample strength if the knife were called on as a last ditch SD knife. It is the perfect lightweight gentleman's tactical EDC.

The blade shape is different

I have always liked Mel Pardue designs. They are simple and effective. I bought the 531 based on my experience with the 350 and 530 models. I especially like the 154CM steel. It takes and holds a very sharp edge. I bought the 531 because of the G10 handle, which I have found provides a much better gripping surface than Zytel. The only negative thing that I can say about this knife is that I am disappointed that they switched from the double grind spear point to a modified drop point blade shape. The new blade doesn't have the same elegance that the original had. I'm guessing that the new blade is less expensive to grind. It still has similar functionality but it has lost it's sex appeal, so to speak. Still a great knife that's well made and capable of daily hard use.
