I have been cutting cardboard boxes for two weeks and the blade has held its edge. The carbon fiber scale are firm, comfortable, and hip. The top end pocket clip is great for deep and discrete concealed carry. A flipper feature would have made it perfect but the thumb stud is acceptable though it takes some practice for those of us who grew up with flippers.
What is there to say about the Bugout that hasn't been said a thousand times. It changed the game with its light weight and sliciness. This version ups the game with the Carbon Fiber handles, upgraded S90V blade steel and a nice pop of color with the blue thumb stud and backspacer. This version definitely takes the Bugout into the premium realm.
Superb fit and finish. Smooth action. Razor sharp. The feel of the contoured carbon fiber scales is "buttery". I must now admit regret in not having long ago invested in this Benchmade creation - it would have kept me from spending hard-earned dinero on other good folders that simply do not measure up to knife's very high quality.
the knife is just awesome great steel in the s90v. it arrives razor sharp. the carbon fiber handles are so light and beautiful. fits so nice in pocket .Very thin and light you never know its there. It arrived perfect..,blade centered great,.very sharp. I love it
I bought this high end Bugout 535-3 knife several months ago and it quickly became my favorite EDC carry knife. It is so light I am not even aware it is there until I need it. Great slicer. Super sharp S90V steel blade. Great edge retention. I love the carbon fiber scales. Great looking and handling knife. Quick and easy to flick the blade out and closed. Expensive, but well worth it the price for an awesome knife. I highly recommend.
This knife has become an EDMC. My first bug out... this knife is beautiful. A little stiff out of the box but some cleaning and lube will help. Fiddling will become addictive. A must.
Currently EDC this, and it is a nice departure in weight from previous rotationed EDC. I added titanium hardware and CF backspacer, and it is now perfectly balanced at the pivot. Opening was a little "scratchy" out of the box, but a little lube on the lock mechanism contact points smoother it right out. Seems to come from the wire springs rubbing on the CF, or the AXIS lock slide. Haven't really pushed the steel yet, normal cutting tasks are not even making marks.
What can I say ... my first Bechmade and I could not have made a better choice ... very light strong carbon fiber exterior with by far the sharpest blade right out of the box I've ever owned ... currently using it as my EDC and it has not disappointed ... great knife !!
Not my first Benchmade & won't be the last. Sharper out of the box than anything I have seen; fit and finish is great. My new "dressy" EDC. Can't go wrong with this one...
The Benchmade Bugout is a super light weight EDC. I just love it, feels great in my hand. Opens and closes beautifully. This knife I highly recommend for everyone!
This is my second Benchmade. My other BKN is a 940 which rocks. This knife is even more amazing. It is a slicer! I am a field rep for a large distributor. Though I wear dress slacks and dress shirt, I am hands on and I have to get in the down and dirty at times. The thin profile and light weight is perfect. The SV90 is perfect for breaking down boxes, cutting hoses, and other tasks while holding its edge. The action is very smooth but my 940 is still more fun to fidget.
I have been using the 535 (carbon fiber, S90V blade for almost two years and really like it. Very sharp and not that hard to maintain it and it holds an edge very well. Very handsome. Very light in the pocket, to where you pretty much forget it is there. Easy to deploy. Great slicer. Fidgety. I liked it so well I bought two of my sons the regular Bugouts for Christmas last year and they love them. A mainstay in my EDC rotation. Definitely highly recommend.
This is a good knife, I love the looks and the materials are top notch. The blade came sharp and centered. The lock up is amazingly solid for a knife so light. I've put the knife through its paces cutting up cardboard boxes and the edge lasts like advertised for S90V. The reason for four stars instead of five is that out of the box the action was gritty, a little knife lube fixed that but for a knife in this price range that's disappointing. 'Ew, thats not good!' shouldn't be your first thought opening a premium product of any kind. Overall this is a beautiful knife, made with great materials in America and is something I'm glad I bought.
Great knife that should have left the factory that way!
Disappointing out of the box. Centering was off, action was tight and sticky, and pivot kept getting loose. That's par for the course with Benchmade and even Spyderco. I don't have these problems with the Chinese knives. Let me say this though, once I fidgeted with the centering and tightening all the screws and even putting blue loctite on them, the knife is tip top.
This is one of those purchases I decided upon upgrading, especially after all I have heard and read about the Bugout. I had purchased it's exact, mini version and it's action and blade were perfect out of the box. This full-sized version not so much. Blade arrived with several burr spots, and the opening action sticky. Perhaps over time I can fix both but don't feel that I should at this price point. Great looker and very light in the pocket. I hope and want to improve this knife. As I shared earlier, its little sister is near perfection.
Fantastic knife which you hardly feel is in your pocket.
This a great knife. Blade is well centered and no movement at all when locked. It flicks open very easily with thumb. The action is excellent. Very solid build. Love the carbon fiber scales. The knife feels very good in my hand (large hands). Knife was very sharp out of the box but a bit toothy. First knife with S90V and I have good expectations. The best thing about this knife is it's form factor and weight. I have this knife in my pocket and I literally forget it is there. It is so thin and light. My issue with my other knives is that I always feel them (weight and bulk) in my pocket when using sweatpants and shorts. This is not the case with this knife. My only gripe with this knife is the cost. It seems like it is overpriced. I recently bought another Benchmade knife with CF scales and Magnacut steel which is a much more substantial knife with a lot more materials and it is only a bit more money. It is a great knife and expect it will by my main EDC I just wish it cost a bit less.
Disappointed. Blade is not centered when closed. Axis lock is a mess. When the knife is open and locked, there is an up and down "clicking" noise, indicating a flaw. Feels like when it is locked, it's not truly secured. Axis lock "pins" swivel from side to side. The entire knife doesn't feel sturdy and precise in its tooling. For this price, I expect so much more than what was delivered. Had my hopes up but wish I would have put my money towards something else. Even my Elementum feels like higher build quality and doesn't have the clicks and imperfections that this has.
