Good knife, great steel

Great steel..Um wannabe Rambos with delusions of drawn out knife fights with Perry thrusts and blocks need not apply. Would bet nobody has ever, EVER blocked a knife thrust with there blade..Except on tv..Its great for cleaning animals though..

Great knife especially for a first production run.

I bought this as a tactical knife and it has everything you could want some might look at that and say what's tactical about it well for one to wait my hands are heavy enough the most effective tactical knives are the ones that are lightweight and the crew wear a steel gives it that edge the edge of sharpness, and the edge of being fast in the hands of a lethal adversary. Case you're wondering who that might be that would be me. I also own the lion steel t6 which I still use it's a different type of knife it's heavier a lot heavier every knife has a purpose for every person but if you really looking and you're not satisfied person that commented above me look at wrinkler knives by case they're made by x special forces / Navy seals/ they're all soldiers so it really doesn't matter does it they served and they know what's needed in a knife all the more reason to check out case wrinkler knives. But as far as the money goes I love this Benchmade I love the steel and I love the sheath this is going to go on my tactical vest I always carry two blades this will be one of them it'll be a spot on the vest where if I'm pinned up against something or someone in the enemy is too close all I got to do is reach behind the small of my back and surprise! As for the sharpener on the bottom of the blade it also works great as a knife fighting blade catcher basically if you're in a knife fight you can use that choil that's for a fire rod just like you would a dagger that has them high and low to block cuts to your hand nice job Benchmade let's see what else you got price points perfect.

finally arrived

It took more then a month for it to come to Ontario. Well deserved waiting. The knife looks way better than on pictures. Came sharp like hell. It feels great in my hand. Time will show its qualities . . .

“Yours for life”

The knife itself is 5 stars, the sheath is 0. I did not dock the overall rating of 5 stars because of the sheath based purely on Benchmade’s customer service/warranty. I lost it twice due to the point of attachment of the sheath. The first time the screws that attach the sheath to the belt loop came loose causing the knife to drop off somewhere along the way. Called Benchmade and they said they must have forgot to put loctite on the screws and sent me a new knife. I didn’t want to repeat my issue so I modified the sheath by replacing the screws with my own using lock washers, a locknut and loctite. Worked great until the same area failed in a different way. The second time, the plastic piece itself snapped while on a friend’s boat causing the knife and ferro rod to go overboard. Benchmade sent me another replacement including a new ferro rod. I was pleasantly surprised the first time as most companies won’t honor warranties due to loss. Benchmade did so Twice! Without hesitation. They stand by their motto. I further modified the point of attachment on the third knife by fabricating a piece of aluminum to replace the plastic. So far so good. I put finish as a con because of the sheath as well. While it has good retention the sheath has scratched the finish on the blade pretty extensively. Problem is sand, it’s hard to clean the sand out and the plastic is not forgiving causing it to become abrasive. Tried to find a leather sheath but can’t find a good fit as of yet. Not a huge deal to me but something to be aware of.

A decent axe replacement that I have been abusing the heck out of

If you don't like to carry around an axe when you bushcraft, get this or something like it. I have gotten this knife since around launch and It is amazing. Whenever me and my friend go out in the woods to our camping spot I always bring this with me. At first you might think it's not that durable since it looks rather thin and has a skeletonized handle, but that is farther from the truth. I have batoned wood, prepped food, used the back end as a hammer, started fires with the oversized choil, and more. I do not baby this blade, and I never needed to sharpen it after the first time. I decided to put it at 25* per side at 400 grit since I live in New England due to all the hard wood. Maybe if I lived in an area with softer wood I would do 20*. I am taking off a star since the belt look is terrible, it should have been shipped with the Tek-Lok belt loop. And it has a ferro rod holder, but doesn't come with one in it. I don't think it would have been too expensive for Benchmade to add ferro rods with the knife, especially when it was 261 USD. The price is even higher now.

It's a Benchmade, but..........

Bought this to use as an outdoors knife on my acreage - cutting a myriad things from boxes, small branches, small diameter wooden posts, cloth, cable ties, opening bags of feed, using as a pruner, etc. Bought primarily for the steel, as my outdoor fixed blades are Niolox, Sleipner and 13C27/14C28N Sandvik steels. all 4"-7" blade length. I wanted so much to like this knife, as it's my first Benchmade and in CruWear. Gave it a good baptism outdoors in 104 F heat. Blade is a great design, shape and thickness, but it wasn't so sharp out of the box; took quite a bit to get it to the standard of the others. One point down. Second point was lost because of the thinness of the handle - I have large hands and appreciate the 1" or so thickness of all my other knives' handles. This one is 2/3" thick and is uncomfortable for my use, compared with the others. It doesn't fit snugly in my hand (I'm right-handed), is not contoured to any great degree and has a tendency to slip when the hands get sweaty (I live in West Texas, which is quite warm). I'm no great fan of Kydex/Boltaron 'plastic' sheaths, though they're practical and may last, I prefer a good leather sheath; that's just me. Looks like I've got a good food prep knife for the campsite and a great feather stick carver, but that's all. It was a toss-up between this and the Lionsteel T6, which I now wish I'd bought. Looks like I'm going to spend yet more money at the KC!!
