Perfect EDC

This is the perfect size EDC. Small enough to fit comfortably in my pocket, but big enough to do whatever I need done. Blade holds its edge well, and has suffered through all kinds of abuse with no problem. This is my second Mini Griptillian…the first one I gifted to TSA. Overall, I’d say I’ve carried its big brother and the mini for about 10 years. Like the mini better as an EDC.

Great little carry knife

I've had this knife for almost a year now, purchased from Knife Center. It's a perfect size for easy carry in my front pocket. Out of the box the blade is plenty sharp, but I polished in a bit with a strop and some compound... shaving arm hair in no time. The CPM S30V steel is a well respected knife steel, and it sharpens up well without too much effort. Nice light weight and easy open and close with one hand. The clip is sturdy and tight, the way I prefer, but others may find it a bit tough to slide onto your pants pocket. Solid construction with zero play in the blade or handle (a previous review described problems with this, and I would have sent it back since that is not acceptable). I have owned Bench Made in the past, but the size was more than I found to be regularly useful, but this one is perfect. Will hold onto it.

Outstanding

I’m a retired police officer with over 35 years of service and have carried many knives for work. I go back and forth between this and the drop point as to which is the best for edc. This is a little bit better if you prefer the thumb hole over the stud. Incredible steel ,holds great edge yet easy to resharpen. The lock is unbreakable. I have large hands but the mini fits perfectly in my grip. You can’t possibly buy a better knife at this price

Hits the sweet spot for my preferences

I have more knives than I use. This is one of two folders that I use daily. The knife is well built and the axis lock is strong and functions well. Mine is older and has CM154 steel, which is fine. The current version has upgraded steel. The 5 star is biased by my preferences. The ergonomics for a compact folding knives are the best I have had my hands on. I prefer a medium size knife like the Mini Griptillian or the ZT Sinkevitch 0450. I prefer the thumb hole to a thumb stud. The blade shape and grind are functional and slicey. For rough use I switch to a fixed blade or a specialized tool, which leads into the helpful hints below. Helpful kitchen hint of the day: Put a putty knife, a utility knife, a tiny pry bar, and a screwdriver in your kitchen near your knives. Show your wife where they are and how great they are. This potentially saves time, money, and injury. From personal experience and contrary to the oft repeated saying: Sharp knives are much more dangerous than dull knives. However, the old saying about cutting away from yourself is definitely true. You probably don’t need to ask how I know.

Favorite knife.

I use this knife as an EDC very often. It's handy at home, outside, and when camping. It's easy to put a great, sharp edge on this knife and care is a breeze. The steel Benchmade uses (S30V) is well known as a top notch knife steel, and it's well worth the extra expense to get a knife of this quality (granted I think this is the least expensive knife Benchmade makes). Easy to open, solid when being used, and easy to close. High marks all around!

Benchmade mini griptilian bought January 2,2023

On January 2,2023 I went to my local Bridgeport tool and equipment store local Benchmade dealer in Marietta Ohio and bought the Benchmade mini Bugout 533 and the mini griptilian 555 both with S30V steel and also purchased the benchmade blue box torx bit maintenance kit for them. I’ve only had both knives a week as of 1/9/23 and really like them both I’ve actually rotated between them both and can’t wait to get a chance to sharpen the S30V steel blade for the very first time this is my very first benchmade product and very first experience with the S30V steel so definitely curious to see how it actually sharpens up for the very first time. Definitely will be taking one of them with me to the camper when I start back to camping in the spring time. Can’t wait to show them to fellow friends and people who enjoy knives. Don’t see many people carrying the Benchmade brand just because of how expensive they are to purchase them.

Mini Griptilian best EDC folder (my third one)

I’ve carried this knife every day for ten years or so. Ergonomics? Check. Thumb hole opening? Check. Axis lock reliable? Check. If it came in a blaze orange or bright yellow handle (more findable on the ground), it truly would be perfect.

Great blade, poor quality knife.

This is my first Benchmade, and I absolutely love the sheepsfoot blade along with the Axis lock, however that’s about all the positive comments I have for this knife. The knife had quite a bit of blade play brand new out of the box. After disassembly, clean, and lube that issue has almost been fully resolved. The scales were molded completely uneven and overall build quality is very poor. I was going to ship the knife to Benchmade for repair, but I’m not a huge fan of the factory scales. I found an aftermarket pair which will work much better for my hands. Also, the pocket clip had several rough burrs which needed to be smoothed down. I feel like for the price, it’s been way too much of a “project”.
