perfect for discreet but useful EDC. Fun.

Fine knife. Fits great in the change(?) pocket of jeans. For non-assisted it's a good flipper. Not scary, very sharp. Sheath is fine. Great lock up and centering. No complaints at all.

Nice Gentleman's Knife

I had my eye on this for a while and it definitely lived up to my expectations. Super handsome gentlemans knife and the blade is super sharp (almost cut the tip of my thumb off fidgeting around with it) I have to strongly disagree with the few bad reviews on this knife as the action is snappy and the pouch is perfectly fine quality.

Sub 3-inch urban EDC perfection

This knife is EXACTLY what I was looking for. While I live in a place where I can have larger knives, I'll be moving to near San Francisco, which limits blade length to 3 inches, so I thought I might need something SF legal for when I'm in town. This knife doesn't look "tactical", which is nice when you don't want people to scream and run for their lives when you use it for opening a package or something. I found the leather pouch to be just fine, but it lives in my MKM pocket pouch, which is better. To be honest, a lot of what I look for in a knife is "can it be tactical?" This one can. It's small, but as someone with a few years of knife-fighting under my belt, it could be pressed into service if needed. I got this to be an EDC knife, and it does that well. CPM-20CV is nice. The blade shape is just perfect. The detent is strong, so it won't open in your pocket if you don't use the leather holder. The materials look fancy, but they are TOUGH. It's steel and G10, so it can take a beating. I've also used it a bit to pry things off the bed of my CNC machine, and it worked like a charm. Strong frame, well built, and classy. Can't say enough nice things about this knife. Is this a 5 inch clip point? No, but we can't have it all in one knife. Is this a great, fly-under-the-radar knife that can do most things while being legal in places requiring blades to be under 3 inches? Yes. It's great. Outside of SF though, I'm sticking with my PM2 for now.

A Potential EDC...

I purchased the Gold Class version of this knife last week, but am reluctant to carry a $550 knife as an EDC: I lose things! It has become my 'grail' knife! And to be honest, I like this version better for use: it has a better detent for my preferred deployment, and my experience with Damascus blades versus known steels (i.e. 20CV,) has taught me beauty doesn't trump utility! This 'plain Jane' is a known quantiity and quality. I own a dozen or more 20CV knives and they have gained my confidence. I showed both knives at a recent meeting, and the Gold Class got all the "oohs and awes", but I doubt my friends would be so enamored if they screwed-up that blade sharpening it! I also bought the Tengu Tool when I ordered this knife. I doubt I'll ever carry it; I bought it just to complete this Oeser collection. I don't drink anything that requires a bottle opener, and I have other fifth pocket tools that better fulfill my own typical personal needs. Though, for sure, I'll miss it when I DO NEED IT! Again, many thanks for your continuing great service! Bill M

Tengu Flipper

I purchased this knife and could not be happier regarding the quality. I have a ton of Benchmade, Spyderco, and a couple of Chris Reeve, the Tengu is one of my favorites. If you are considering this knife, you will not be disappointed.

Cons: Lock Ease of Use

Fixed the blade retention, and it's great

This is a really sweet knife with one glaring negative. The amount of effort required to flip the blade is far too much. While most knives will use a ball bearing to hold the knife in the closed position, this knife uses a flat-headed stud. The way to correct this is to slowly file down or round the edges of the stud until the blade flips smoothly. This will take a while, because you have to take it down a bit at a time. Once it's done, the knife is vastly improved. The Gold Class Tengu flipper uses the same style flat-headed stud, but doesn't require near the same amount of effort to open. I used an MKM knife pouch to carry this knife. I think it works better, because the magnetic catch keeps the knife positioned where you want it.

Very difficult to open

I enjoy the size, feel and balance of this knife but that doesn’t make up for how difficult this knife is to open. Very stiff action to the point that I can only open it on the first try only one out of four attempts.

Not impressed

I love the look of this knife. I love the quality of the blade. Unfortunately, that’s all the good I have to say about it. The leather case for it has very poor stitching, which I find odd because benchmade quality is usually top notch. For 200 dollars I expect more
