Cons: Handle Feel, Handle Material

good knife, but could be better

Wow, this knife looks impressive, but it has some imperfections. On the plus side, with the wood and stainless steel, this is a really showy piece of knife for the money. It has a high profile clip for easy deployment. All that classy and manly style has nowhere to hide when you carry it! The handle is beefy and perfect for large size hands. It has a deep groove for the index finger, so no worries about it slippy during hard use. The blade was pleasantly sharp, and the whole thing just has the right heft and feel to be adequate for hiking, camping, or light combat. On the down side, the imperfections make it not EDC material for everyone. For one the pocket clip should expose less of the knife from the pocket for proper EDC... you don't want to advertise or have it slip out! The metal protrudes from the wood slightly and bothers the hand if using it a lot. The wood has a slight varnish smell if putting your nose up close to it. Hopefully that will fade away, but I'm making sure to wash my hands after using it for now. My biggest complaint is that the blade length is mis-advertised. Yes, it actually measures 3.20 inches from tip of the handle to tip of the blade! This is a slight problem in the state where I live, but like I said, it is not EDC material, so I won't be carrying it everywhere.. I just wish that I could. I would gladly pay another $50 if they could improve on this knife. I'm still happy that I bought it, and will be using/carrying it occasionally.

A good buy but a bit disappointing

This knife, as well as its' smaller family member I have reviewed, came in a nice metal presentation box with a tool for tightening the screws. A quality feature all in itself. The knife is well made, works in all ways as it should, is sharp and good looking. It is marked 440 steel, which could be 440A, B, or C. They should have it marked corrrectly like the other knife was. It is flat ground so my Lansky clamp will not work as well on it to sharpen it. Wood to metal fit is not as well done as the other knife, the metal being proud of the wood on top and bottom of handle but well done on the ends. The wood itself looks a bit beat up, not well finished. I applied OOO steel wool and a clear satin finish, and that helped but the wood is still marred. The wood is rather flat and uncontoured. The other knife is much more pleasing to the hand and eye. Somewhere here it should be mentioned that you aren't paying for excellence here. You are still getting good value for your money. I am just disappointed because I expected a knife like the other, smaller one in most respects.
