Very Poor Performing Knife
I've been using this knife for over 4 months and it has to be the worst performing blade that I own. Out of the box, I needed to sharpen it immediately. It was pretty blunt and had a bevel of 24 degrees on one side and 32 on the other. I used a laser goniometer for the measurement. I brought the bevel down to 18 DPS and figured that would be fine for CPM-3V @ 63-64 HRC. NOPE. Edge was rolling and chipping on oak during carving and chipped like mad after batoning maple. The steel seems soft like a 420J2 or 440A, but even those steels seem tougher than this Boker Bronco. I can't say if this is really CPM-3V, or if it's just heat treated HORRIBLY. I brought the bevel to a more obtuse 20 degrees per side, then to 22 degrees and finally to a 24 degree convex but this just won't hold an edge. I even needed to re-sharpen the spine because it was dulling from a firesteel. My BRK blades in 3V are lightyears ahead with performance and durability. I contacted Boker and they told me to send it back to their Germany factory, but they do not pay shipping outgoing or incoming so it's not even worth the hassle with those shipping costs.
