an overlooked knife

this is a great knife. It's mid-size but very light. I was surprised how light it was but yet very capable of doing big jobs. You can still chop with it and baton. The spring steel used in this knife is one of the toughest carbon steels available. the same steel that's used in truck springs. handle is great and will accommodate regardless of the size of grip. If you want a decent size full tang knife without the heavy weight, this knife is for you.

Punk!

I use it for a camping knife. Easy to use and big enough for larger jobs! Handle fits my small hands well. And the knife is very light and easy to use!

Don't call it a Punk

Just received my "punk" a few days ago. I originally wanted the Hoodlum,but when I learned of this mini version, I just had to have it. While I am a fan of large survival knives, I decided to go" lite" and purchased the Punk. Well...this knife is no punk at all. Great quality and workmanship. Used it sparingly in the back yard. Excellent feather stick making capability and while not a monster chopper, it got the job done. Sheath is top notch with plenty of room for a mini survival kit, Firesteel and sharpener. Can't wait to take it camping this spring!

Excellent Knife

Just got it today and glad I bought it. Great balance, razor sharp blade, love the sheath and the finish. Plan on using it for backpacking, hunting and survival kit. I finally can say that if I had to have one knife this would be it. Great job Buck and RIP Ron you will be missed.

Light, allaround blade

Same steel and wicked sharpness as the Hoodlum and so I am betting on the same edge retention. Great weight and balance. Some thought has been given to the thumb with an indention in the handle right behind the "hump". Two minor criticisms. The edges on the Micarta handles are sharp. I can fix that myself, but given how well this was done on the Hoodlum, I think Buck can do better. The retention strap (the one with the button), is kind of tight. Not easy to fasten in a hurry. But this is small potatoes compared to what you get: lots of knife at very low weight. Looks good, too.

Solid and good knife for outdoors

I've had this knife for close to a year, and keep it strapped to my backpack when I am outdoors. The full tang blade is sharp and durable, and I like the handles. The knife doesn't slip even in wet conditions. Fits well into the sheath, but the top strap is a bit tight. Great balance, and to me the knife looks really good.

Could have been great

I recently purchased the punk as an upgrade to a Mora that I have carried for years. I based my decision on the blade shape and steel used. As it came out of the box the handle scales were almost as sharp as the blade itself. After cleaning up and rounding off the scales [my mistake otherwise I would have returned it ] I took another look at the edge. It had a pronounced shoulder making it difficult to cut anything other than cordage. While not insurmountable, for the money spent it should have been ready to use without requiring the hilt to be reshaped and the edge re-profiled and reground. In short, with a little t l c and attention to detail it could have been great rather than on the low side of mediocre.
