Quality and Balance

Although I've yet to use the Compadre properly, I already love it. The knife has a great balanced feel to it and was razor sharp from the box; the spring steel has a distinctive feel and is obviously super tough. The leather sheath is thick and well designed allowing for easy one-handed access and stowage. Quality.

CANTLOSEMERED Full Tang Goodness !

I tend to donate blades to the wilderness much more than I'd like to admit. This particular fixed blade comes with a very vibrant, red colored blade. The handle is just a tad smooth, but is definitely softer in feel compared to all of the plastic handles out there. Because of the time of year that I received this blade, I've so far only used it to shave arm hair and cut wrapping paper. It comes from the factory with Bucks' functionally sharp edge. I'm sort of an edge snob, so it didn't take long to have the edge honed to my liking. The sheath is simple enough with a retaining strap to keep the knife from coming out during more rigorous maneuvers :) I would definitely buy this knife again if it ever gets lost, stolen, sold, traded, gifted, or is a victim of spontaneous self combustion !

Buck Compadre review

I purchaced the camp knive along with the Buck Compadre Froe as a christmas gift for my son. He was delighted to receive them. As an active backpacker he was out on the trail two days after Christmas day. When he got home he raved aboput how useful both tools worked. I'm sure he'll get many years of use from them. Thanks for the outstanding service. Your web site made shopping so much easyer. Thanks for everything. Jim M

Great knife

An excellent knife for this price point. Came with a nice sturdy leather sheath. Edge retention has been excellent. It came razor keen. I have used it for one season and the factory edge is still there. The powder coat does come off with use, but I just treat the uncoated areas like my other carbon steel knives. The red color is less shocking in person than in a photo. I try to be good about re-sheathing my knives when I finish a task, but I bet if I set this thing down, it would be hard to misplace. The handle length is perfect for my hand. I wear just between medium and large size men's gloves. So if you are a definite large handed person, the handle length my not be long enough. Handle material is good. I haven't used it in slick or wet conditions, but have read that some people find the handle slippery when wet. Dry, it's perfectly grippy without being tacky. The edge is great for fine work. And I find the blade shape a very versatile one for camp tasks. 5160 is a really good steel for an outdoor utility knife and Buck is a great company. Definitely a good value in this tool.

Better than I expected

I just picked up this knife, and around the same time I also picked up an esee 3. For half the price the fit and finish of the buck was of course a little lower than the esee but was all around decent, and dare I say out of the box the buck was sharper according to my leg hair shave test. Great sheath, like the handle, all around bargain for this blade in my opinion.
