Buck Ranger 112 Slim Select

I bought this Buck Ranger 112, Slim Select as a backup knife in my small survival kit. The knife fits well in the small space. It meets a lot of the criteria that I have: 3"blade for legal carry, lock back, plain edge, very sharp, strong deep pocket clip, and made in the USA. The only negative is the thumb studs were a little loose but I managed to tighten them. All in all I would recommend this knife!

I love the quality and a Buck knife and the 112 Slim Range provides that with a low price tag.

Great work knife

This knife is the perfect size for work. I use it as a general carpenter's knife. The clip point is the ultimate piercings tip design. I feel confident with the lockback. Of course the blade is sturdy enough to withstand downward pressure. The slim width and weight makes it disappear in the pocket. The pocket clips keeps it accessible. Price point to quality it has few equals in the workman's or workwoman's category. If you pull-out a Buck Knife on the jobsite the other trades will give a quite nod of respect.

What a great value

I love this knife -- $30, American made, nice snap action to open, well-centered, a decent steel that has an excellent heat treatment and performs really well, razor sharp out of the box. People may love their $200 pocket knives, but this thing is so easy and light to carry. Great great value.

Here’s Your New Delica

This is not the review I expected to be leaving, especially as a big Spyderco fan. I figured this would be an interesting, albeit budget, update of the 112. Rather this is a first rate, modern, EDC lockback folder. The GFN handle feels very solid and the texturing is first rate. I’d actually put it up against any GFN/FRN I’ve held. The action was the real surprise though, it snaps out smoothly with a secure and satisfying lockup. The blade is nicely ground and has a shiny stonewashed finish that hides small scratches. The Buck 420HC punches well above its class and has a (well renowned) heat treatment that can match most blade steels until you’re in super steel territory. Of course it came well sharpened with an aggressive point. At $30 for a US made pocketknife, this thing is a real puzzle. Every year the price of a Delica or Griptilian gets further out of reach as the usable ‘everyman’ pocket tool they purport to be. This is in every way that knife. It’s simple and intuitive, American made, tough, lightweight and affordable. You can’t disassemble it, but in every other way it’s a clear win for Buck. Oh and I like the pocket clip.

Change of mind

Though I can’t find it now, I previously wrote a negative review of this knife. Since then, I can’t remember what the negatives were. Sure, I’m not wild about the back lock, but I carry BOTH of mine for rough duty. They’re terrific, a whole lot of knife for the money. I believe that the Buck 420 HC holds its edge better than my D2 blades.

Great affordable EDC

Has become my favorite EDC knife. Came sharp out the blister pack, and Buck's hollow ground edge geometry makes it a great slicer. While lightweight and thin, it is still up for anything most users would ask of an EDC blade. Lockup is tight. Handle is large enough to accommodate all my fingers and shaped so they won't slip off. One surprise was the pocket clip, which is wider than most with nicely polished edges. It holds the knife securely while allowing it to deploy smoothly without snagging or damaging the edge of my pocket. Great little knife that's inexpensive enough to loose without crying or to abuse if necessary to get the job done. And it's an American-made Buck. That's still comforting to a lot of folks and something I might factor in if selecting it as a gift.
