A kitchen must-have

Let's face it, the biggest part of cooking is the prep, preparing the food is the most interesting part; this Case sodbuster is the all around utility Knife, where did you ever see a paring knife with this shape, or even with a handle this size? It's perfect! It fits into a jar just right, cutting vegetables, peeling anything, Forget that it folds that's just an added convenince, for protecthing the blade if you put it in a draw. Along with a Hewlett 123 knife-sharpener the Case Sodbuster is a must-have if you do any work in your kitchen at all.

All you need...all you could want...

This knife is all you could need in a knife, and all you could want. It is classic and simple. It has everything you need in a knife and nothing you don't. The skinner blade is one that has stood the test of time. It is sharp, stays sharp and easy to sharpen. If you know what you are doing, you don't need a lock. Without a lock, it is easy to shut with a quick swipe of the hand. The black smooth grips won't fatigue the hand when used for a long period of time. The appearance don't scream "I want to be an airborne ranger", even though these knives were known to go to Vietnam with numerous rangers. It is made to be used. No scrollwork and fancy wood on this knife. If it is lost in a swamp, woods, or mountainside, go buy another.

It's a classic

I bought my first case Sod Buster as a teenager in the 1970's. I still have that knife, but I was curious if there had been modifications good or bad in the last 40 years. That answer is 'none that I can see'. The only difference I can see is the logo is laser etched on the new ones. The logo is barely readable on my old one. I wonder how farmers have a Sod Buster in their overall pockets today. If I was out there handling feed, seed, or fertilizer sacks a knife that size would be handy.

Case Sodbuster

This ia a great knife. Comparible in size to the buck 110.. Very sharp and easy to resharpen, Not to heavy to carry in your pocket. Would not hesitate in recommending this knife.

Case Sodbuster - solid knife

Just received my Sodbuster and overall am very happy with the knife. The synthetic handle feels great and it’s nice having a full size handle to grip. The blade was very sharp out of the box and I really like the engraving on the blade. From a QC perspective, when closed the blade is not centered. It’s a little annoying but not the end of the world. The backspring tension is solid, but I would personally prefer a bit more resistance, especially when closing the blade. Overall, the price point is appropriate and it’s the type of knife you won’t mind working hard at all.

High quality, but missing some of that Case feel

The shape is beautiful, the blade is sharp. It's a Case, after all (though there is no detente on this knife or, I believe, any Case Sodbuster). But the blade is not quite centered, and it does not open as smoothly as I've come to expect from Case knives, of which I own a great many. If it were a Chinese knock-off, I'd give it four stars (five if it were less than $10), but I expect more from Case. $30 is the very lowest cost Case, but that's more than this knife is worth. That said, it is perfectly functional, unlike my other Cases kept safely boxed in my drawer, this one is getting serious use.
