I really like this knife. I saw the review on David C Anderson's video and I immediately went on the website and bought it. It is a very nice looking knife, and it feels good in the hand. The blade is super sharp and the price can't be beat. The feel of the micarta is "grippy" and it doesn't slip around in your hand. Here are the only two criticisms I have (and keep in mind that I still give this knife a 5 star review): 1) the blade is heavier than the handle, so it is slightly unbalanced 2) the flipper is slippery, so it takes some extra force to flip it open (this would be improved with some serrations on the flipper)
•This is a medium/large size, semi-cleaver pocket folder knife which is very solid and sturdy in the hand due to the thick stainless steel liners and cleaver blade. •I like the smooth feel of the Burlap micarta scales. They are grippy and look great. •The swaged edge of the blade spine is smoothed with rounded edges that feel comfortable. No thumb jimping on the spine. •Blade can be opened using the smooth non-jimped finger flipper tab on the blade spine. •Easy thumb access to liner lock. •Deep index finger provides a very secure grip. •Inset and fully deep carry type polished clip with flush fitting screws do not snag pants. No hot spots. •Properly strong detents. A medium/light thumb flip is required to fully open blade to the lock position. Blade snap opens hard to a full lock. Another great fit and finish knife from CJRB. A great value for the price.
Very happy with my purchase. The knife is a great size. Not too big. The burlap micarta handles feel great and help you maintain grip. The finger grip on the back of the blade is great and allows you to really get some good leverage if needed. This is a fantastic knife for the money. $80 quality. If you are looking for a reliable EDC that can replace a knife worth several hundred this is the one. You don't have to worry about losing it as much and you can really make some deep cuts with confidence. This baby shreds. Beefed it up with my diamond sharpener. she is scalpel sharp now. stylish knife I hopefully never lose. Definitely worth the extra money for the D2 steel and handles.
Hard to believe how great this knife is for the money
What an incredible knife this is for less than $50. Very high quality. The micarta handle is awesome! CRJB seems to be an up and comer manufacturer. I'm certainly very impressed with them.
Perfect size and weight. The burlap micarta handles are solid and look very nice. The pocket clip is perfect and the flipper is smooth as silk. Very impressed with this knife, especially considering the low cost. Not 100% sure about the blade material just yet... time will tell the tale there.
I ordered this model because I wanted a knife in my collection with a cleaver/modified sheepsfoot style blade and I'm glad I did. Fit and finish are excellent and the knife carries smaller in the pocket than measurements might indicate because of the contoured micarta handles. The micarta has a nice subdued color to it that matches up well with the stonewashed D2 blade and has just enough surface friction to keep the knife from sliding around too much in the palm of my hand. This cleaver/sheepsfoot blade style is extremely useful for both precise, quick transition cuts using the steeply angled point and forceful press cuts using the substantial blade length and shallow belly. The perfectly centered blade deploys smoothly using the flipper with no blade play and closes fairly easily with one hand. It is a liner lock though so it's not as smooth an action on closing as some other lock types such as an Axis lock. The deep pocket carry clip is always appreciated since I back pocket carry and this style clip minimizes damage to the body and handles of the knife. The combination of deep finger choil and large flipper means you'll never have to worry about your hand sliding forward and contacting the blade. It even has a small blade choil that can be used for precision work for those individuals with smaller index fingers. About the only features I'd love to see added are aggressive thumb serrations on the spine of the blade and knife body to keep my thumb in place and finer serrations on the flipper for surer activation. Both areas can be a tad slippery when wet or oily. Overall it's an excellent EDC knife with impressive materials and solid design. For the price I'd definitely say it's tough to beat.
This blade is razor sharp right out of the box. Nice bearings create an extremely smooth movement. I would definitely suggest it to anyone who is looking for a good EDC blade for under 50 dollars. It feels like it should cost a lot more.
I previously wrote a review on this knife. After seeing some reviews about the lockup I rechecked mine. Sure enough there is no lockup if you open it gently. If you click it hard it does lockup but only just. Easily fixed by taking a file to the lock bar. I normally check the lockup on all knives now by holding the knife sharp blade up and tapping the spine into the palm of my other hand. Be sure to keep fingers out of the road Incase it folds up. With this method I've caught some issues with some liner locks including Cold Steel Lussan, Steel Will Cutjacks (2) Kershaw Free fall and the Stedemon tanto. I still love CJRB knives.
This knife is rugged and feels substantial in your hand. The action is amazing. My only suggestion for this type of knife is to have a bit of texture/jimping on the flipper. The blade is so heavy that sometimes your finger slips off the flipper. The micarta handles feel and look great! Great knife for the value!
The overall feel of this nice screams quality. It has great action out of the box with a Guillotine close. The handles look and feel great. I cannot recommend it enough! The only thing negative that I can say is that it deserves a nicer pocket clip. Not that the one is bad, it should have something a little more fancy...
I watched the KnifeCenter's video (featuring David C. Anderson) of the review/critique of the CJRB Crag Flipper and I was sold. I bought it- - -and Mr. Anderson's review is spot-on ! Thank you KnifeCenter for another great EDC.
Going to start this w only complaint. I hv large hands so to flip open properly I must hv my hand positioned a bit forward and rear of knife in rear of palm. A bit uneasy. That said it checks all the boxes. Comes razor sharp. Tge micarta grips are great. Flipping motion is smooth n while it's a bit on the heavy side that's way I like it to feel substantial n still b somewhat compact. I also own the the model w carbon fiber handles n I like it a bit better because it is just a bit bigger because handles are a bit more squared off or larger if u will. It's rpm9 instead of d2 but both will b great carry knives for every day cutting. I guess only other complaint is placement of clip but minor issue.
This thing is amazing! The feel in hand must be experienced to properly understand. The ergonomics are impressive for its size and the burlap scales make it the most tactile feeling knife I own. I rip through boxes daily and only maintain with a strop charged with green compound.. it’s still hair popping sharp, I’m not sure my left arm will ever regrow hair at this point.
Well built heavy duty EDC but lacking in a couple of areas
Bottom line - this is a great heavy duty EDC knife. I see this knife being used in a warehouse type role, where it will go through packaging, cardboard, plastic bales etc, It has great blade length, shape and handle ergos for comfortable all day use. The burlap micarta feels great, though I wonder if it could have been left a little bit more rough for more grip. In my size XL glove hands the handle feels nice, solid and comfortable. I don't see this knife being used as a camping knife (although it will still be a nice knife to take camping if you want). The blade geometry would make fine carving difficult and I would be too paranoid about the D2 steel staining to prepare food with it, which is a shame because the blade shape would make such a good kitchen knife as its basically a mini cleaver and I could see it go through small bones while preparing food. Small ergos really set this knife back in my opinion. The lack of jimping on the flipper tab makes it sometimes awkward to deploy the heavy-ish blade. I wonder if it can be improved with a thumb hole as you can break the detent with a pinch grip. I wish the blade choil was a tad bigger as it would make gripping down feel a bit safer, although at no point to my fat index fingers contact the sharp part of the blade. The lack of jimping on the liner lock (think what a Spyderco Tenacious has for example) and the strong liner lock make folding the blade a little awkward as well. The biggest issue for me is the pocket clip. In the default carry it really digs into the flesh of the palm when you hold it, which is an ergonomics flaw if you want to use it for heavy duty cutting/slicing. This knife actually prompted me to buy a torx set, and switching the clip to left hand carry makes the knife a bit more comfortable to handle in my opinion (although it makes deploying and folding the blade a bit more awkward). What I've done is take the clip off altogether because the weight of the knife more or less ensures it stays deep in the pocket and instantly eliminates any annoyances with the handle ergos. Still, this is a great knife at this price and you can see why it's such a popular buy on knifecenter. If the jimping on the tab (or better yet a thumbhole) the clip (something more low profile and comfortable in the hand) and maybe a true stainless steel blade was addressed this would be a 5 star review easy.

This is a very hefty knife, very sharp out of the box. the overall weight may relegate this to a backup knife in the car, fit and finish is excellent. I like the size of the blade, but combine that with the handle size, this rivals a fixed blade knife.

Poor Lockup
At first I loved this knife. While I have quite a few higher end knives I really like knives at this price point that I can work hard. This one flips well, cuts well, and is quite solid. I really like the scales too. Unfortunately after about one month the lockup started slipping. If I have it open I can actually close it with little effort without ever pressing on the liner lock. I don't ever buy slipjoints because they feel too risky for real work. What I have now is essentially a slipjoint knife that I'm uncomfortable using.
After a month, the lock stopped working. Called Customer Service today and Zach handled a return label and assured me the item is in stock. I waited months for it initially. Happy with the CSR and process. Wish it wouldn't have happened because this is a great knife otherwise.
