K-TACT Kukri Review Update
Although, I advocated the improvement of adding a detachable Casstrom Sweden No. 3 Carabiner Dangler, Part #: CASSOS10110, and I have now replaced the stationary D-ring provided on K-TACT’s dangler, with the Casstrom No. 3, and it is a much better sheath for doing, so; I do not recommend it unless you have Kydex + leather sheath making experience (not rocket science, you can probably figure it out, but wasn’t as easy as sliding the Casstrom No. 3 Dangler into the leather belt loop). ***** ATTENTION: The kydex belt loop that transitions the dangler to the sheath is only 1.25” deep, and will not accomodate a 1.5” belt, if you had wanted to remove the dangler and use the Kydex loop. I re-formed the Kydex belt loop to except a 1.5” belt (1.675”-1.75” deep), and also accept the ¼” diameter Casstrom No. 3 Dangler using a cut length of door shim as the form, and performed the reforming of belt loop with a heat gun (no Kydex press needed, easy to do, can use hair dryer, too). Added two screws w/stainless washers just below the belt loop to stiffen up the Kydex belt loop. ***** WARNING: I found no evidence that thread locker was used on any of the screws on this sheath, you may want to look into that. ***** ALSO: If thinking of attaching a Tec-Lok, or some other alternative method of belt attachment, Condor did NOT drill Kydex Belt Loop attachment screw holes on center, 0.75” apart. ???? Good Luck with that. These and other necessary fixes to utilize the Casstrom No. 3, make the Kydex belt loop larger, and add thread locker to the screws were completed in about an hour. I also, modified the leather dangler belt loop to accept the No. 3 Dangler. If the dangler set up is not for you, and you don’t want to hassle with modifications, you may want to check out the Condor Heavy Duty Kukri, same knife w/ walnut scales (more comfortable) and leather sheath, no dangler. I am happy with K-TACT Kukri after the modifications to the sheath. It is now a more versatile sheath, and you can remove the dangler + D-ring when you tie it to your mule, and don’t want the dangler jangling around. Attach a Maxpedition EDC Pocket Organizer to the outside of sheath (Part #: MX0246K), and you can have your companion knives, stone, first aid kit, fire starts, etc. riding right on your sheath.
