Great blade, compromises on fittings not worth the price
Condor can be so frustrating at times. They are so close to greatness that I'll pay nearly $100 for a machete comparable to something similarly functional that might be had for $20. The pro that tipped the scale for me is 3mm thickness, compared to 2-2.5 on similar machetes. Imacasa, who manufactures Condor's offerings, makes plenty of blades in this same shape, but few with the slight added thickness. The 1075 blade steel is poor quality and will chip on hardwood, but it is tough and can be sharpened readily on a brick or rock found in the field. The real back draw of this machete is the handle, which is too thick and squared, and will require some whittling and shaping for serious users. Horrendous. The sheath is very nice quality, well-finished leather, and possibly worth as much as the knife itself. However, it is not fitted to this machete. The blade loosely slips in, but the handle hangs outside of it. For use, you may be better off buying a generic sheath for a larger blade length. This sheath seems like it was designed to fully encapsulate a smaller knife. Great blade, but not worth the price for all the compromises. Sometimes I just don't understand why Condor charges so much with all the corners they had to cut, ultimately making a very flawed product as a result.
