Great (BIG) Blade

Great knife , has the size and weight to throw big chips when chopping wood. The micarta slabs are comfortable and created no "hot spots" during extended use. The blade came sharp and has a good steep grind . The sheath is also excellent quality and fits the knife perfectly. The whole packade gives you a " I'm not going to let you down " feeling . Condor and Joe Flowers (the knife designer) hit a home run with this one.

My Favorite Condor

I had been debating buying one of the other Condor big knives for a while and stumbled across the boomslang at a knifeshop in WV. Fell in love, bought it and went to work with it. Ive cleared brush, processed firewood, dug, and hammered with it in my attempts to damage it, for if it fails any of my testing, it goes into the trade box. After using it for a month or so, I ended up stripping the coating and putting a patina on the blade, and ground a lanyard hole in the blade across from the choil. I also convexed the blade and wow do the chips fly now! The sheath is good, but I envision a kydex cross draw sheath. Id also like to see a slightly cheaper version with the hardwood handles.

This is an AWESOME knife. Sheath is as thick as the blade-3/16". It holds the blade when inverted & shaken. Impressive. I had to reprofile mine & sharpen it up good, but it now shaves hair & chops like no tomorrow. Only thing that could be added is jimping for the great choil. But i did that with my Dremel tool. One awesome blade & sheath for the money. Fit & finish were perfect.

Boomslanger

In a current test of useful sniper gear items this is one, if not the best of the Condor line. Well designed and balannced it is on par with the golok and parang models only with thicker blade, better grip and faster in the hand. The sheath is the "pouch" type partially encasing the grip. It arrives with a good edge but not razor quality. This was fixed with a DMT stone after a few swipes on the FINE grit side.

KICK ASS CHOPPER

The Micarta fit and finish on this knife is incredible. I couldn't believe it for the price. It outchopped my old chipped ontario RTAK II no problem. I like the comfortable handle too!

Beastly Chopper!

Very solid and great build quality. It is surprisingly well balanced for as big as the blade is, especially if you use the finger choil. Other reviewers said theirs came sharp out of the box. I had to spend a long time reprofiling mine. It came with a chunky, steep grind. Probably 25 degrees per side or more. It reminded me of a dull, thick grind on an axe. I took it down to about 20 degrees per side. Now it carves, slices, and chops well. So, it takes a great edge, but may take some time to get there depending on your sharpening skills.

Boomslang - gets the job done

I have been using the Boomslang in the woods behind the house clearing brush - It came sharp out of the box. I touched it up and had it shaving sharp in less than 5 min. It stays sharp even after a long day of clearing brush and splitting some small logs into kindling for the fire pit. the weight towards the tip makes it good for chopping. I have already rec commended it to my friends. sincerely; Eric

Cons: Weight, Blade Material

Functional camp knife but a little light for heavy chopping.

The Condor Boomslang has a pretty good steel, 1075 steel (70-80% carbon) and it holds a great edge because of good tempering at the factory and has a light to medium heft to it, it balances in the hand perfectly, I thought it would been a heavier for chopping but its not. The excellent balance is very deceiving,(balance is about 1" in front of handle). The handle is longer and micarta slabs are comfortable and created no problems during use. The blade came sharp and has a fair moderate grind to the edge. The sheath is also very good quality, thick leather as with all Condor blades, and fits the knife securely when knife is pushed all the way in....The price is a high IMO, $75.00 to $95.00 for what your getting...All in all I think a 12" Ontario machete, basically the same weight and length, (1095 steel,90-100% carbon), for a third of the price or less, is equal if not superior to this knife...Yes the "Boomslang" has a cool name and look to it, but when you pay the high price and then get it in your hand for the first time, you'll see exactly what I mean...Good luck!
