Mountain Pass Machete

The weight of this full tang machete is perfect for me. Allows for adequate force for removing very thick brush. This machete is a joy to use.

A compact weighted machete with power and packability.

I needed a compact machete that could be worn comfortably in a small helicopter, but with the size and weight to cut lots of trail through spruce branches, and alder quickly. The 3mm thickness in the blade with all that material at the front makes this a great chopper and with the hand-and-a-half handle you can really put some power into each swing. Capability of a 18" machete with a more versatile form. The handle is the most outstanding part of this tool, with no irritation spots and contours that make it easy to hang on to even when fatigued. The index finger groove also makes the machete easy to use for percise cutting and notching if needed. Adding a lanyard more than makes up for the lack of a pommel flare. The micarta is very grippy with lots of surface texture, no issues there, some finish issues but nothing easily noticable. Blade came with a good working edge, centered perfectly, no curve to the machete's spine at all. Chopped frozen spruce with no chipping, so that's a win. Sheath finish and leather quality could be higher but it matches the price point and purpose. Overall a great compact machete. Looking forward to some hard use.

Cons: Finish, Materials

Handle is a let down

Given this a full workout over several months doing general garden work, mainly limbing small trees and clearing brambles. Generally it is a good blade for general use, but doesn't cut it on hardwood. Pros: Light Looks good Blade isn't too short. Cons: Uncomfortable handle - rotates in the hand easily and the scales recently loosened Deflects/bounces easily. Weak handle grip exaggerates the issue Its a simple construction... definitely a tool for work, certainly NOT over-engineered. Is this a pro or a con?
