Excellent

Received my knife today which was perfect timing. I had a bunch of birds to butcher. So I put this knife to work . Very sharp and held a edge well.Handle gets a little slick when it gets wet. Not sure about the molded scabbard holding its shape over time ? But over all a excellent knife.

Compact, Functional, and Beautiful

I have owned the Biwa for 5 months and taken it hiking, camping, and fishing. In all of these scenarios, I’ve used it as a neck knife. I wade fish, and a knife around the neck is a handy thing. It is compact, light weight, and easy to strop to a razor’s edge. I don’t mind the 8CR, because it’s knife I plan to use and it is easy to hone. The handle and liners are an extra touch of class, making it punch above it’s weight class.

Functional, Good Looking Knife

I should preface this review by saying that the neck knives I EDC from CRKT are primarily used for food prep/processing tasks that I would rather not use another knife for. Also owning a Minimalist, I'll be using that for some comparisons. I did not subject this knife to any bushcraft/hard use type of tasks so I can't speak for it there, but in and around the kitchen and for lighter use tasks, I can say the Biwa really shines. The knife was razor sharp right out of the box and the blade shape makes for a very slicey little knife. It fits comfortably in the hand (a 3-4 finger grip for my medium hands) and the jimping along the top side of the blade is a nice touch. It seems well built and has a functional and attractive blade shape that's great for piercing and slicing. The G10 scales with a small band of orange on either side of the tang are a nice touch. It's also nearly the same weight as a Minimalist with about an inch more blade than my Minimalist Bowie. The sheath is nothing special, but I had no issues with the knife coming loose from the sheath while wearing it around my neck under normal circumstances. Carried on the belt you'll forget this knife is even there – very easy and comfortable to carry. Really the only problem I have with this knife is the blade steel. After a week of use in the kitchen, washing and drying the knife as I normally would after each use, the 8Cr13MoV stainless steel has started to rust significantly. I'm aware of some remedies for that, but anyone planning to use this knife in/around the kitchen, in/near water, etc. should be aware that this knife will start to rust if exposed to water/moisture. To sum things up, the Biwa is a very functional and handy fixed blade knife that I've realized needs a little extra TLC due to what I use it for, though that may not be the case for everyone. I do think it would benefit from some steel not as prone to rust. If you like knives designed by Folts and are a fan of the Minimalist, at this price point I think it's a no-brainer to get one for yourself and try it out.

Ok knife

I got this knife a year ago and I really liked it at first BUT I tried it as a neck knife and it looks cool but it comes out of the sheath every 5 steps and so i put on the horizontal carry belt strap thing and since it was plastic it broke when I set it down. I didn’t set it down hard at all but it just snapped in half and I was unable to fix it.😭😭😭. One good thing about this knife is the durability. I dunno why but this is a really great throwing knife. Better than all of the other ones that are 50 bucks.

Good little knife but sheath lacks adequate retention.

Good little knife for food prep on the road. I have no complaints with the knife itself only the lack of retention of the sheath.

One flaw

I enjoy this knife, I've owned it for about 6 months. First couple months is when i noticed my only issue. The jimping on the spine is not entirely flush with the grip so you know. On the blade side is also jimping but it's so flush you can't feel texture. The blade being straight always keeps me from putting much pressure as the grip is so smooth, it's not grippy. Maybe they could do an aggressive diamond pattern wood grip. Sleek, sturdy, sharp. Second knife I've owned from Foltz designs. More functionality on the sheath would be cool. I like to wear my knife almost anywhere on my body.
