Well, sort of. As a huge fan of the design of the 2490 Squid, owing several variations of the model, I never really carried them. They were just too small for the tasks I use a knife for. I was excited when CRKT released a larger model and immediately bought one. First off, the knife I received was excellent in fit and finish. Out of the box the assisted opening and bearings opened the knife quickly and smoothly. The frame lock engages the blade halfway with solid lockup and blade centering is spot on. Another thing I appreciated about this model is the upgraded D2 blade steel. I personally don’t care for 8Cr steels as I prefer longer edge retention on my blades. Blade grind was even and nearly flawless. Overall the quality is what I expected from this price point and more. I personally would like to see a version that isn’t assisted and has bushings instead of bearings. Unfortunately, in my uses both of those option are drawbacks. I have had assist springs break, which leaves the knife useless and is a hassle at best to get replaced. Bearings quickly get gummed up with grime and grit and require disassembly and cleaning more often than I care for. Bushings give me far fewer issues. I feel as if I traded less time sharpening with the D2 over the 8Cr steel for more disassembly and cleaning time with the bearings and spring. That being said, if you are a fan of bearings, assisted opening, and D2 steel this is a really great knife at a good price.

This knife was exactly what I was looking for to begin my EDC knife journey: assisted opening, flipper, frame lock, steel that can hold an edge, and a price point to help me make the jump. It turns out that the handle fits nice in my hand as well, and I have hands that are larger than average. I'll admit, the frame lock is kind of stiff at first (for one handed closing) but has been getting better over time as I get used to it and it breaks in. Definitely not a deal breaker.

Reminds me of my first Spyderco, the Tenacious. Only beefier and with that Assisted Flipper and nice 2.95" D2 Stonewash Blade, you can't go wrong!

Needs a bigger area on frame lock.
It's a great knife other than having to use my fingernail to unlock the blade. The frame lock is so small and tight to the frame that I can't unlock it with my thumb. Other than that, I love how it snaps open so fast with a satisfying sound. The way the knife looks weathered is really nice as well.
