great axe head

I love this axe it has great cutting ability the only reason I gave it a 4 is I think the handle is too short. So I made a new handle for it now it is a 23 inch long walnut handle. Let me tell you this thing turned into a real work horse yet it is still nice and light weight.

Great hatchet

I love it, it's not an axe. The head is a little smaller than I thought it would be and there is not much room for a big hand to grip up by the head. I also had to do some fairly extensive sharpening to get the right profile. Bad stuff out of the way the head is nice and thick and once i sharpened correctly this thing is an absolute pleasure to swing cuts very well. Holds up to frozen dirty wood with out any issue and the handle is great. Hits like a larger axe. If I could change it I would ad an ice of cutting edge and distance between the beard and the haft. then give it a 20-24 inch handle that would ad minimal weight but turn this in to a serious cutting tool.

great balance

Needed a small axe for my saddle and this fit the bill. Sharp out the box. Wrapped the handle in leather and had a sheath made for it. Cut some young saplings to test the blade and balance; and now it's good to go Would have gotten 5 stars but no sheath :(

Poor Construction

I'm extremely disappointed with this CRKT Freyr Axe. After placing my order, I waited two months due to delays from the manufacturer. Not sure if production was rushed but quality control suffered. Shipping to Australia was very fast (thanks KnifeCenter). However, the craftsmanship on this tool was very poor. The handle was misaligned at an extreme angle to the head and protruded awkwardly from the top. There was very little distance between the beard and the handle which made it impossible to choke up with my hand near the head. The edge was blunt and had rust on it out of the box. After a few hours of hard testing the handle was completely chewed up (due to axe head movement) and I now have to replace the handle.
