Took the Hunt'N Fisch fishing.

The other day, took the kids out for their first fishing expedition of the season (just to the local lake-but to kids, THAT is an expedition!) & took along the Hunt'N Fisch for its first outing, too. You know that with a group of kids, I was running around getting this snag unsnagged, this line bird nest un-nested, clearing brush to make their fishing spot more snag free, etc. So, they were doing all the fishing! They caught a couple of 2 pound bass, which were a lotta fun to watch them bring them in. We took photos of them and released them. They also caught a several panfish, of which I kept three. At the end, before we left, I used the Hunt'N Fisch to scale & clean those panfish and we fried them up right there, on one of those small grills mounted on a post at the picnic area by the lake. I brought a cast iron skillet, a plastic bag with a flour/cornmeal/spice mix to coat the fish & a small plastic squeeze bottle with cooking oil & we cooked them fresh out of the water. Each child got one small panfish to eat, and they have been bugging me ever since to please, please, PUL-EESE take us fishing again! The Hunt'N Fisch worked like a charm - was plenty sharp, fit the hand well - even when wet & covered in fish. I had taken the as-supplied lanyard off because I did not want to get the pretty purple one all covered with fish juice. Will maybe see if I can get a paracord one through the tiny lanyard hole later on. I am not used to carrying a knife horizontally on the belt - will have to get back to you as to whether I think that is a Pro or a Con (need to use it some more before I make that judgment). Otherwise, it is a great spending the day in the woods knife. It is built strong enough that I bet that I will be passing it down to one of those young fisherfolks - maybe I better get two more! I recommend this knife!

My favorite CRKT knife

I bought it for a small, light duty knife when hunting. The fact that it was CRKT sealed the deal. It's both smaller and better than expected. It's great for getting a fish ready for the fire. It's summer so it hasn't been to hunting camp yet but there is no doubt that it will excel there too. Just wish I had found it at this price. I like mine so much I ordered another at this lower price!

Hunt and fisch

I love this knife , not going to get anything nicer or better for the money. Mosaic pins, well built and i like smaller blades, compared to several bark rivers i have, this is one third the price. If you learn how to sharpen a knife, you don't need fancy a2 steel

Beautiful Knife

I can see this is going to be one of my favorites already. The blade is just the right size, not too big, not too small. The handle is one of the best I've seen. The indention for the forefinger along with the groves along the spine ensure positive control at all times. The mosaic pins really jump out. This is a feature that to me takes the knife to another level, it's not just functional, it's beautiful. Probably the least thing to most people, I loved. The purple lanyard makes it pop. There's also a black one included if purple is too much for you. Before I bought my knife, I was looking at the reviews and a few people seemed to have concerns about the horizontal sheath. I have a couple others knives with that type and have never had a concern about losing the knife. I feel the same with this one. It's not loose fitting and requires a positive pull to draw it. And you feel it when it "seats" in the sheath. I like a horizontal draw because it can tuck away easier along your belt and is less bulky to me in a car. This is a beautiful blade, well made and I'm happy with my purchase. On a side note, I was not as familiar with CRKT until I bought another knife of theirs from Knife Center. I have been pleased with it and with this one now, CRKT is showing consistent quality and knives I'm happy to own.

Nice knife

This knife is smaller than I expected it to be but turned out to be the perfect size. I use it for squirrels and other light tasks and it feels great in the hand, the blade shape is ideal for small game and the jimping is very sharp, giving good purchase. The sheath is a snug fit. I am getting used to the horizontal carry. That is the only option for carry. The G10 handle looks like wood, it has a great surface texture for grip. Overall this is my favorite sheath knife for hunting use.

One of the prettiest knives I own... And it works too...

I love this little thing. Yes, it is a smaller blade but it feels like just enough. The blade is beautifully finished, the jimping and file work are spot on, the handle shape if outstanding, the looks are better than the pictures and DCA's recommendation video (Father's Day 2022 video) would lead you to expect. It comes with both a purple and a black lanyard, and a very nice leather sheath. This knife is the perfect size and shape for a pocket EDC fixed blade and I may either need to modify the sheath and put on an Ulticlip or have a custom sheath made. One of the sharpest blades I've ever gotten right out of the box. Ready to shave. My only concern is how smooth the handles are. The G10 is polished and thus a bit slick, but the contouring should mitigate that. I would definitely buy this knife again.

Excellent all-around outdoor knife

As a park ranger working in the field, I needed a small sheath knife that had a traditional look and would perform well. I am now writing this review after four years of daily use, because the Hunt n' Fisch is an excellent knife, both on and off the job: - Excellent traditional appearance, but with durable modern materials - holds up to anything. - Leather sheath matches my brown basketweave duty gear perfectly, but horizontal carry mean it spends most of its life in my pocket, as it takes a bit too much real estate on my belt. (Off duty, no problem.) - Jimping on back of blade allows for excellent control when "choking up" for close work. - 2.99" blade allows for carry in areas regulating blade length to under 3" - Full tang design is extremely strong, and is long enough to allow for confident use by full-size hands - Just plain looks good and feels right. Highly recommend. After showing it off at the ranger office, two other rangers immediately bought their own. That's a good testimonial!

First-rate EDC fixie

I'm not much of an outdoorsman, so look to other reviews for that . . . however, this is a great EDC fixed blade. Good size, great feel - love the handle. Also really like the sheath: horizontal carry is a good EDC option, and the quality of this sheath is great for the price.

A Keeper Knife

Purchased this knife based on the reviews and they were spot on. I needed a small knife that will dress game, do light work around camp and woods and not get in the way when not needed. Sharp out of the box, balanced and well put together. Sheath is different, but well made, and I will give it a chance to teach an old dog new tricks.

I use this knife for fine work when I carry a larger camp knife for chopping, etc. It is perfect for such tasks, including field dressing small game and deer. I like the horizontal carry sheath and everything about the knife. I also think that the price is quite reasonable. I am completely satisfied with this product.

Nice knife

This knife’s size lends well to EDC pocket or belt carry, the blade is sharper and seems to hold an edge well. I haven’t had to sharpen it yet, so will have to get back on this. I like the aggressive jimping along the spine the finger choil is easily indexed and you can choke up on the knife for detailed work. The blade stock is thick and will take hard use. The handle fills my medium to large sized hand well. The fit and finish is nicely done. The mosaic pins add a nice touch. The leather sheath is functional and meant to be carried scout style. A little disappointed that the knife is made in China

CRKT 2861

My granddaughter owns one of these and she says the knife is great but the sheath stinks. The horizontal carry gives the feeling that the knife is about to slip out and be lost. CRKT, provide a more positive sheath?

Just recently got the knife. I like the size, fits well in the hand and is sharp. It has just been used on a black bear and was quite effective. Size is nice as you can get into small spaces and control the blade easily. Not sure about the "sideways" sheath. I have not used one before and tend to just put my knives in my pack.
